5 Lessons Learned from Speaking at TEDxHadrumet: A Journey of Insights and Reflections

Hey everyone! Today, I want to share my incredible experience speaking at TEDxHadrumet in Sousse, Tunisia. As someone who has been part of the TEDx ecosystem since 2010 — even helping to launch BIL Conference in Tunisia — I’m always amazed by how much I continue to learn with each speaking opportunity.

The Event: TEDxHadrumet

Organized by AIESEC, a renowned student organization, the event focused on social media and AI. As the last speaker of the day at 5 pm, I wasn’t expecting much audience engagement, especially given the philosophical nature of my talk. But sometimes, the most unexpected moments become the most profound learning experiences.

5 Key Insights from My TEDx Journey

1. Content is King for Gen Z

The younger generation isn’t just consuming content — they’re living it. Their appetite for meaningful, authentic storytelling is reshaping how we communicate and share ideas.

2. AI: Embraced, Not Feared

Contrary to popular narratives about AI anxiety, the audience showed genuine excitement and openness towards technological advancements. People are curious and eager to understand how AI can solve real-world problems.

3. Video Content Dominates Social Media

If there’s one thing crystal clear, it’s that video has become the primary medium of communication. Platforms that prioritize visual storytelling are winning the attention game.

4. Personal Branding Makes a Speaker (even if you’re talk is not that great)

Walking onto that stage taught me a crucial lesson: your preparatory work matters as much as your on-stage performance. Building a solid body of work and establishing your brand provides the credibility and confidence needed to truly connect with an audience.

5. Solutions Trump Reflection

Perhaps the most challenging insight was realizing that audiences are primarily seeking actionable solutions. Philosophical reflections, while valuable, require significant mental effort from listeners. As speakers, we must bridge abstract ideas with practical takeaways.

Final Thoughts

Speaking at TEDxHadrumet was more than just a presentation — it was a profound learning experience. As a seasoned speaker and public speaking coach, I’m reminded that every stage is an opportunity for growth, every audience a chance to refine our message.

To my fellow speakers and aspiring thought leaders: keep learning, stay curious, and never stop challenging yourself.

Until next time! 🎤✨
