MAQE at TATW2023: Customer Value, Personal Fulfillment, and Company Longevity
Three reasons why a Teal-like company has chosen to adopt the Rendanheyi organizational model.

I’ll be speaking at Teal Around the World on March 3, 2023. I’ll be talking about MAQE and our decision to adopt Rendanheyi (RDHY).
MAQE is a Teal-like company. Why did we decide to adopt an organizational model from the world’s largest white goods manufacturer?
That’s a fair question, and the answer involves the following ideas:

Let me break it down for you:
Customer Value: Innovation and Partnership
MAQE has always been internally focused. In terms of the Competing Values Framework, we’d place somewhere in the upper-left quadrant. That’s not a bad thing necessarily. But as a professional services firm, we also know that a splash of customer centricity can go a long way. That’s the first reason we chose to adopt RDHY. It’s a model built on the concept of Zero Distance, which means that the closer we are to our customers, the better able we are to deliver value. We hope that this, in turn, will translate into greater innovation and stronger partnerships, and I’ll explain how during my talk.
Personal Fulfillment: Autonomy and Upside
Teal values such as self-organization, wholeness, and evolutionary purpose are key to the MAQE experience. RDHY won’t change that. In fact, we hope RDHY will make us better able to live up to those aspirations while at the same time moving us to the right in the Competing Values Framework. I will explain how during my talk, but it basically boils down to autonomy and *upside*. RDHY advocates radical decentralization which leads to more freedom. Thanks to its MicroEnterprise (ME) structure, RDHY also paves the way for self-set salaries and equity ownership. We think it’s important that people are able to reap what they sow.
Company Longevity: Resilience and Optionality
Moving to the right in the Competing Values Framework will benefit our customers and our people, and thus the company too. Specifically, it will provide greater resilience and *optionality*. RDHY’s ME structure is to organizations what microservice architectures are to software applications; adaptable and better able to withstand unforeseen events. We’re also creating a lightweight ventures program with which to experiment with new products and services, which we hope will give us more options and pathways to respond to unexpected challenges or opportunities.
In short: We’ve adopted RDHYI because we hope to achieve greater levels of customer value, personal fulfillment, and company longevity:

That’s all for this week. Until next time: Make it matter.
How can we build better organizations? That’s the question I’ve been trying to answer for the past 10 years. Each week, I share some of what I’ve learned in a weekly newsletter called WorkMatters. Subscription is free. Back-issues are published to Medium after three months. This article was originally published on Friday, February 17, 2023.
