Papering over the cracks

Amen to that, but barely a day into a new dawn, where we all sincerely hope it’s well and truly out with the hell that 2020 brought with it?

We have some worrying signs.

For the media is wading in with its say, first and foremost.

Paper Talk:

i-newspaper: ‘Race is on between virus & vaccine.’

You can say that again, as inside the paper they run with an article headed ‘Shortage of vials could lead to delays in giving vaccine!’

It also mentions that Boris Johnson is, ‘ in danger of missing his back to normal by Easter’ pledge.

AstraZeneca has produced 4 million doses so far, but can deliver only 500,000 due to glass shortages.

Even more damning, a crucial glass vial production plant will not be operational in the UK until after Easter!

However, the government persists in its rhetoric about ramping up to its target of two million vaccinations per week.

Dave Dalton the chief executive of British Glass said, ‘The supply chain in the UK needs to be strengthened and improved.’

*But guess what the spokesperson for the government has come out with?

Wait for it, ‘The UK has taken decisive action to scale up the domestic vaccine manufacturing capability and this actually occurred early on.’

Diary Comment:

So, now we have their statement, but if it does not prove to be the case, and I think I’m on firm ground in saying this will probably be more likely the truth of the situation, then this government continues to trade in BIG FAT LIES, as well as a bit of trade with the EU now and again!

  • It’s what this government does best, as we’ve all found before and continue to find, to our ultimate cost.
  • They’ve said they've well and truly covered this and that it is not AstraZeneca’s fault.

*Rather than a few cracks already appearing on the thin ice of this embryo stage of a new year, it looks as if an almighty chasm is opening up before us!

Hardly the start to the new year that we all prayed for, is it?

The only thing left for us is actually to pray that somehow the cracks can be papered over and the vaccine program will run far more smoothly. Uhm, let's wait & see.

Meanwhile the papers continue to have their say:

The Sun: ‘Jab’s army! They are running with an ambitious target to arrange 50,000 volunteers to help with the operational requirements of marshaling the venues where the vaccines will be administered.

However, this paper has not mentioned one little detail that we know about! Shortage of glass vials.

Never mind, it’s the thought that counts.

The Daily Star: ‘UP YOURS 2020!

So say all of us, but 2021 has not got off on the right foot regarding our desperate fight against the virus, has it?

Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s First Minister, rightfully declares it as the most important phase of the whole pandemic.

More from my Diary Comment Section:

With a 2–0 lead in the penalty shootout, it feels once again as if the whole thing has been put on ice. We’re frozen in our tracks, and now SAGE are saying even a National Lockdown wouldn't substantially lower numbers!

The all-important first figures of the new year are now in, and it’s not good reading again!

I’ve somehow found them:

5.00 pm Virtual Brief: 1/1/2021 UK

New Cases: 53,285

24 hr deaths: 615

Total deaths: 74,125.

Further Comment:

I just read a short story about astronomers being baffled by the disappearance of a large Black Hole.

Perhaps this is the storage place for all the UK vaccines?
