13 Steps To Maintain Your Lovely Flowers Fresh For Longer

Flowers But they can be expensive to purchase every week. If you leave a bouquet of flowers in a vase unattended, then you’ll be lucky if they last more than five days. But with just a little TLC and those 13 simple tricks they can last up to ten days.

  1. Attempt into place your flowers in warm water the moment you get them. If they’re out of a florist then they have probably been wrapped into a moist paper towel or have an individual water container so they’ll be OK for a couple of hours. As soon as you’ve got access to a vase, set them in tepid water.

  2. Trim any greenery off the stalks which are going to be submerged under water.

  3. Even after a cut, blossoms still require nutrients. Most arrangements out of a florist will come with a package of flower food or you’ll be able to add two teaspoons of sugars into your own vase full of water to keep them lively.

  4. Trim the stems every other day. A knife is better than scissors since they won’t damage and crush the endings, which can prevent the blossom from absorbing water.

  5. Not only does this water become rancid very quickly, but when left too long it may encourage microorganisms to grow and kill the blossoms.

  6. Remove any wilted petals or leaves as they look. Dying flowers emit ethylene gas which can lead to the rest of your bouquet to wilt.

  7. Spritz your blossoms with water daily. Heaters and air conditioners can dry their asses out and leave them dried.

  8. If this will keep the water cleaner for longer.

  9. Cut Flowers prefer cooler conditions. Transfer them to a cool area of your home nightly and try not to set them in direct sunlight during the day.

  10. Keep your arrangement away from fruit and other blossoms.

  11. Adding an antibacterial material such as white vinegar (two tablespoons will do the trick) into the water can help prevent bacteria from growing.

  12. Daffodils should be arranged in their own vase. They secrete a substance which kills nearby blossoms.

  13. Every Blossom differs. Ask your florist for specific tips for Looking after your unique bouquet.
