September 11, 2025

On a September morning the sky broke, and we rode. ✈️ 💥 🌆 💔

We stood in lines to give blood we couldn’t give, lit candles on stoops, taped photos to brick, held doors that used to swing shut.

We learned the names of neighbors

we had passed like mail slots for years.

We shared cell phones, prayer, and silence. We were strangers, then sudden kin. 👥

We were not asked what party we loved,

what box we checked, what channel we watched. We were asked for hands —

and we gave them. 🤝

Time rolled on, and the loudest rooms turned digital. 📲 Outrage got cheap, sold by the gallon. People with the darkest, proudest empty black hearts 🖤 drew chalk lines down the family table, told us to love the flag and fear each other. They broke us into teams and called it truth.

But out on the block, that story doesn’t hold.

The baker still saves end pieces for the kid.

The mechanic still lends a socket and a grin.

On Fridays, Sundays, and high holy days,

the mosque, the church, and the synagogue share a parking lot without a fuss.

At the park, two moms trade snacks,

three dads share a bench,

and the dog doesn’t ask who voted what.

When an ambulance wails,

it rides for all of us —

we all bleed the same bright red. 🩸

We are more alike than we’re taught.

We want a safe night’s sleep,

a laugh at the kitchen sink,

a hand for our elders,

a future for our kids,

the ordinary miracle of coming home. 🏡

So remember that other September —

the one after the smoke —

when we leaned toward one another,

not away.

We didn’t agree on everything.

We agreed on enough:

that a life is a life,

that a neighbor is a neighbor,

that sorrow is shared work. 🕊️

Let the headline makers chase their own shadows.

Let the grifters’ poison pass us by.

A country is not a stage for their tricks;

it is a porch light left on,

a spare chair pulled up,

a casserole on a doorstep,

a name learned and said right. 🕯️

Start small.

Hold a door.

Wave first.

Listen longer than you speak.

Show up with jumper cables,

with soup, with time.

Teach a kid to ride,

forgive the small thing,

write the thank-you note,

call your mother back. 🫂

This is how a people stand after falling:

not by malice, not by myth,

but by hands outstretched,

by hearts that refuse the script of fear,

by voices that say — plain as daylight —

I’m here. You’re here.

We’ve risen before.

We can rise together again. 🇺🇸
