Pontoon boats are unlike any other boats such as kayaks, rowboats, canoes and speed boats. They are slower, almost elephant-like because of their size and lack of quickness in the water.
During the summer, Pontoon Boats are a common sight on the lake where I live.

What is a Pontoon Boat? As you can see, it is flat-bottomed and floats on two or more large metal tubes called pontoons which are usually made of aluminum.

Sometimes they even tow some fun-loving kids.

This type of boat, run by an outboard motor, is stable and provides a spacious platform. Activities from this boat lend well to fishing and cruising.
Sometimes pontoon boats venture into the Cove, right out my window.

Mostly, though, they stay out on the open water of the lake.

When snow begins to appear in the corners, we know that it is almost time for Pontoon Boats to leave the water for winter storage.
For one last journey, even a pet is enjoying himself.

Sometimes even a Flamingo catches one last ride.

Taking the ‘elephant’ out of the water for the winter is not for the faint of heart.
Step one is getting the Pontoon Boat to the boat launch.
