Why Consciousness Forces Us to Rethink the Architecture of Time

A forthcoming framework unifies cosmology, physics, and biology by treating awareness as a structural constraint, not an afterthought.

A forthcoming framework unifies cosmology, physics, and biology by treating awareness as a structural constraint, not an afterthought.

The central question of my book, The Secret To All Secrets, is deceptively simple: what is consciousness?

But answering it requires more than neuroscience or psychology alone. If conscious experience is real, meaning continuity, memory, and identity genuinely exist, then the physical universe must possess a structure that enables them to arise and persist.

That realization forces a reversal in how we usually proceed.

Rather than treating consciousness as an emergent byproduct layered atop completed physics, this project asks what kind of cosmological and temporal architecture would be required for biological awareness to be possible at all.

In this framework, consciousness is not something added to the universe; it is something the universe must already be able to support.

That inquiry begins with time.

From the opening chapters, the book examines awareness as a physical phenomenon — one that feels continuous despite operating on delayed, discrete, and distributed processes. Following that thread leads inevitably to a deeper problem: what happens to a moment when it ends?

In Chapter Four, I argue that the standard picture of time — where the past vanishes as the present advances — is insufficient not only for consciousness but for stable physical law itself. A universe that deletes its own prior states cannot support the continuity required for experience, memory, or even coherent evolution.

If biology remembers, then reality must remember first.

This chapter explores persistence as a shared constraint across physics and life. It examines why the Planck interval may represent not merely a limit of measurement, but the rhythm of an underlying structure capable of preserving ordered states across moments.

The full mathematical and cosmological development appears in forthcoming papers. Later chapters extend the framework into biology, including neural and subcellular mechanisms, where this deeper architecture may interface with living systems.

Chapter Four occupies the hinge point. It does not yet cross into biology, but it establishes the physical conditions without which biology — and consciousness — could not exist.

If you are new to the project, start at the beginning, where I first examine awareness itself and introduce the unifying thread. **SecretToAllSecrets.com**
