Rejoice, for this is the morning that we Gump. And are we gonna’ start the week off hot and bothered with the lifeblood of Alabama football — recruiting.

When Alabama wants to put on a set piece display of power and wield its money, history, trophy case, development track record, legitimacy, there are few who do it better or to greater effect. This weekend, perhaps the most important on the 2027 NSD calendar, Alabama put on a show for their visitors, and did it ever work:

Got ‘em:

All in all, not a bad haul: The №3 DL, a fast-rising 4-star RB (and I wrote about Newkirk below at the link) coveted by every major program, wowing Monshun Sales, and generally putting on one helluva’ show. Newkirk and Mitchell alone would make the weekend worth it, but you know the Tide aren’t done yet.

Osani Gayles has been a bit lost in this class, and yes, Sales is still the Tide’s №1 priority, but Alabama has been charging hard after Gayles for a while, despite him not meeting the taller measurables that Deboer prefers (5'11", 185). Out of IMG, the nation’s №7 wideout does remind you a bit of Smitty: He’s a masterful route runner already, and gets in and out of his breaks cleanly, while playing with both high end speed and effortless acceleration. For his size, he’s also a surprisingly physical blocker — he honestly looks more like a Saban player than a KDB one.

The Elite 11 Finals were held over the weekend, and the Tide had two players in attendance. Both performed well for different reasons.

Haven had the more electric throws downfield, but Seaborn was far more fluid and looked more game-polished. That’s not a surprise either. We noted when he committed that Haven had a lot of upside but that he was also a very raw prospect.

It’s about time this injustice were righted.

Well, Wail, Whale…

Guess what happens when you sell your soul to the PE devil? They do the same thing to athletic departments that they do to every other business: strip the equity out of it, layoff as many people as possible, cut every corner imaginable (and many that are unfathomable), and generally provide the framework for enshittification that is ruining society.

The University of Utah is learning that lesson less than six months into their deal — the first of its kind in the country. And, at this rate, perhaps one of the very few.

University of Utah’s athletic department began the process to lay off select employees as part of its restructuring following the soon-to-be finalized deal with Otro Capital on Friday, a department spokesperson told The Salt Lake Tribune.

“In preparation for the growth of Crimson Brand Partners (CBP, formerly Utah Brand Initiatives),” an athletics department spokesperson said in a statement Friday evening, “The University has begun the process of transitioning select units of some University operations to the new company. The first step of that process requires the discontinuation of the individual positions in those units through a reduction in force (RIF), to be followed by CBP’s hiring process.”

I’m only surprised Greg Byrne hasn’t tried to sell off what’s left of the athletic department.

It’s tough to replace a legend, and Alabama women’s golf coach Mic Potter was that exactly. But, Alabama seems to have landed on a very capable successor:

“I am so honored to join the University of Alabama as the head women’s golf coach,’”Lasprilla said in a release. “The tradition, the brand, and the university is very special. To see the investment that Alabama has made, especially in the golf facility at Crimson Reserve, is unmatched. I am looking forward to building a winning culture and winning championships for years to come. I can’t wait to get started and am so thankful for this opportunity.”

As for her bona fides, she was a program builder at Houston whose teams saw increasing success with each season — upside, in a word. That is a very promising track record.

Lasprilla guided the Cougars to historical success, leading the program to four consecutive NCAA Regional appearances from 2023 through 2026 and its first-ever berth in the NCAA Championships in 2026. Under Lasprilla’s leadership, the Cougars reached new heights since she assumed her head coach role in 2021–22. At the beginning of her tenure, Houston was ranked No. 69 nationally and this season, the Cougars climbed to No. 27 in the NCAA Women’s Scoreboard rankings

We finally know Softball’s opponent tonight, and it is easily the most hateable team in America:

NiJaree Canady and Mia Williams alone make it worth rooting against this team, but their mercenary roster of seven starting position players — and a nice little serial liar to bootreally takes the cake. But that’s only if Jason Williams starting shit in the stands didn’t turn you off already.

Sweet Baby Jesus, Alabama has to beat this team.

And, finally, your moment of levity…Padre’s got jokes. LOL.

That’s all for this morning. We’ll see you this evening after the Tide-Tech national semifinal. Take care, and Roll Tide.
