General Posting Information:

When are Prompts posted:

Our goal is to provide you with fun, interesting prompts in a timely manner. We try to publish prompts the day before they are “for” so you have an opportunity and time to think about what you could write. We aim to have daily word posts ready for the following day, at 10am CST. We do apologize if you're looking for a new prompt and it isn’t there yet. We are just doing our darn best, okay? cries in executive dysfunction

Grammar matters:

Please check your work using Grammarly, NOT ChatGPT (go drink water instead you fool) or ask your great-niece twice removed with a journalism degree for some help.

Typos and incorrect grammar can be a real smack to a story that we bet is fantastical. Take some extra time to proofread so we don’t have to play submissions tag.

Top of the Page:

Medium has three optional identifiers you can use at the top of a story. They call them: Kicker, Title, and Subtitle. Please use the Title and Subtitle and format them appropriately. The Kicker is optional. It just makes things extra pretty.

The Title Titles are important. Take some time to think of something that’ll hook your audience, and make sure they are correctly structured. The point of the Title is to give your readers an idea of what your story is about. Make it pop but also don’t just use clickbait.

To format it as a Title in Medium, highlight it, then click the large T in the menu bar if it’s not automatically formatted. Typing it in the Title field will usually do this for you.

The Subtitle Your subtitle should look like this:

The Daily Word#1 : [daily word]

TDW #14 : [daily word]

TDW #56 — May 12/26 — [daily word]

If you write a fiction story and submit it without identifying the prompt it is written to, it will be kindly declined. This helps us edit and approve faster, so help us out.

To format it as a subtitle, highlight it, then click the small "t" in the menu bar.

Page Image A good main image will draw attention to and make your story pop. Please add this under the Subtitle. You can use your own images, images you have obtained from other sources, including AI (discouraged, GO DRINK WATER), or created with various other tools, or search for one within Unsplash on Medium.

We require that you credit the image in the caption to its source. If your image is not properly credited, your story will be declined with an explanation. Fix the credit and resubmit.

Medium’s Guidelines #bosswords

  1. Read Medium’s Image Guidelines and credit each image accordingly.
  2. Follow Medium’s rules. Medium Rules / policy.medium.com
  3. MEDIUM has a limit of two submissions in 24-hours. Please do not submit stories until they're ready to be published, or they’ll be automatically declined.

What is Required for a Story to be Published

  1. Properly formatted Top of Page elements (above)
  2. A story that meets the criteria of the prompt it is written in response to, including:
  • The word of the day, or, as I like to call it, the right frequency. It must be in BOLD.
  • Must meet the exact word count stated in the prompt.

3. Bottom of the page We ask that you add a few items to the bottom of the page. They are:

  1. A link to the daily PROMPT POST that you responded to.
  2. You may add links to the stories of other writers that you especially like to publicize to others. However, stories you link to must be in Frequency Change Publication!

Then What Happens

  1. We read every story before publishing. But we can’t always follow up to comment, clap, or highlight. We’re doing our best, but we’re also human.
  2. The editor may leave a private note on your story; do not delete it. This note may be there to
  • Explain why your story may have been declined
  • Ask something for clarity
  • Let you know of something that needs addressing before we can publish
  • Let you know that Medium has declined to publish because you have already published two stories within the last 24 hours.
  • Let you know of specific changes we made and why. Please do not delete the private notes we leave on your post. The person who edited your story will add their initials at the bottom. Please do not delete these either.

If you have any questions or queries, feel free to ask!
