SPOILED? OR NOT

BLACK.ISH SITCOM
I am watching Black-ish the series. And really loving it. I am also getting conversation pokers from each episode. On my today's episode, I was forced to have a conversation I genuinely dread and have done so for soo long; am I spolied? Dre, one of the main characters and dad to 4 children, demands that his kids get jobs so as to learn the pain of earning. This was after it struck him that his kids were too entitled, too demanding of material things, too impatient, too grumpy, too unforgiving-yeah they were spolied those ones. I thought back at my childhood. I grew up 'rich'. Never worked a day in my life and when I did, it was fun work, like washing my dad's car while blasting it's music, on Sundays with my sisters. When I cleared highschool, I still didn't work, just did lots of volunteering from things that brought my heart joy. So yes. I didn't know the pain of earning. Does that count as spolied? The very first time I got a job and earned money was when I was 22 years old, after campus. Am I spolied? Let's dive in Firstly, I don't consider myself entitled. Rather, too entitled. Nor do I find that I'm too demanding of material things. In fact, I'm fully contented with just my basic needs. Wait, really? I have to mention I'm doing this assessment for the first time ever so forgive the seeming confusion. What I am though, is choosy. Choosy with the kind of job I can do. Here comes the obvious question; does that make me spoiled? Just Incase you answered yes, I hereby ask, doesn't being choosy constitute self awareness? I get really choosy with jobs I can do and things in general because I know myself. Like most smart people, I know my strengths and choose to focus my time leveraging them against my weaknesses. So of course that does not mean that I'm spoiled. At least not necessarily. I also know where I want to be in life and what it takes to get there, forgive me for not wasting time scattering around other paths. I hope that doesn't make me spoiled. At the end of the 'Blackish' episode, Dre realized that his kids weren't spoiled, they each has individual obstacles they needed to overcome and he was the biggest. The take away lesson, which is a whole conversation by itself, was for parents not to withhold privilege for their kids just because they didn't get it themselves and that it translates to spoiled. Personally I'm still sitted on the fence with my case.
