Cats are all over the world and are one of the most cutest adoptable pets for human companions. Not only are these feline friends cute but they are also pretty skillful in hunting and survival. Cats are easily found in every corner of the street in plenty of places in the world. But here, in Bina Nusantara University or usually called BINUS, has many cats wandering around the campus. These cats usually populate the open spaces of the campus and are usually taken care of by many of the students, staff, and lecturers of the University. Due to their love for these feline creatures, two Binusians had come up with an idea to create an Instagram account that focuses on the cats on the campus.

The *@kucingsekitarbinus account on Instagram has loads of cute photos of cats that are all around Binus University. Each cat post is followed by a caption description of their name, their usual territories, and their hobbies. Created back in September 2024 by two B26, the account received a total of 1,500 followers and is still actively sharing new posts of the cats around the campus grounds. Their account was also inspired by an older account called [@binuskucing](https://www.instagram.com/binuskucing?igsh=MTlhZDFtMnNvODU5dw==)* that was run by seniors and had since stopped posting in April 2020. And so to revive the legacy, the admins decided to run a new one.

Each of the cats’ names and hobbies vary widely. Their first ever cat encounter was Momo, located in Syahdan Campus. Other cat names come from food such as Nanas, Bubur, Oreo, Pisang, or even unique identities such as Sacing (Satpam Kucing ; translates to Security Cat), Ed Sheeren, Yanqing, and many more. Although some names are taken due to their circumstances such as Lauson which is a cat that wanders aimlessly around Syahdan Campus and the next door store, Lawson. Each of the cats has their own hobbies and whether those hobbies are true or not are up to the viewers’ beliefs. Examples such as Ginger from Alam Sutera Campus who likes to chase their dreams and Ponyo from Anggrek Campus has a hobby in collecting Labubus.

While the account was merely used for fun and light entertainment, the admins usually posted the cats with their own photos. But as the account grew, each cat post was taken from multiple submissions. Hence, making the debut for a lot of new cats! Each time a new cat is introduced, they would decide to name them by polling from multiple suggestions.

"The cats’ name wasn’t purely from us, but from other friends because the cats are in Binus, owned by us Binusians. So we’ll give them names together as well,"

one of the admin responded.

The most recent post they made was an Instagram reel in October 2024 about *‘Types of Binusians’ featuring multiple cat memes and daily experiences of Binus University students. The post received 15.2K likes with 5,000 people sharing and 97 commenters, all but sharing their same experiences. The account just also recently has a name for their followers as ‘Meowsians’ which probably derives from 'meow' and 'binusians'.*

Even though the account shared cute pictures of cats most of the time, the admins had their fair share of struggles in taking pictures of several cats. Some cats such as Pisang are hard to approach, so Binusians must be careful when befriending them. Others are pretty friendly as some would even come close to you if you called out to them. Though as mentioned previously, some cats like to wander around not only by the campus grounds but anywhere near it, so if you see any of them, give them a pat or maybe a simple “hello!”.

Although the initial purpose of the account is to spread the awareness of the feline existence all over the campus, the admins decided to further expand their plan for the future. One of them is by creating new posts not only dedicated to the cats, but also helpful tips on how to take care of them. They are also planning to open donations in order to help take further care for the feline friends by giving each one of them collars. In the future then, people would know that the cats all belong to BINUS and are a part of the Binusian family.
