I was writing poetry about a person who only existed between the lines.

I suddenly woke up at 3:32 a.m., even though I had only fallen asleep around midnight. It wasn’t because of a noise or a bad dream. I simply opened my eyes, and before I could even think about going back to sleep, that thought found its way into my mind.

Funny, isn’t it? I genuinely believed I was doing fine. I thought I had reached a point where things no longer affected me the way they used to. I had been busy with my own life, enjoying my days, focusing on the things that mattered, and convincing myself that whatever happened would no longer have a place in my heart. Yet somehow, out of all the things my mind could have chosen to think about at 3:32 in the morning, it chose that.

And then, finally, it happened.

I guess my intuition wasn’t completely wrong after all. There had always been a quiet feeling in the back of my mind, a small suspicion that I never really voiced out. Not because I wanted it to be true, but because sometimes you just know. Sometimes your heart notices things before your mind is willing to accept them.

The strange thing is that I’m not even upset. At least, not in the way people would expect. There are no dramatic tears, no anger, no resentment. Just a quiet heaviness that sits in my chest and reminds me that some things still matter more than I’d like to admit.

Maybe this is Allah’s way of teaching me something. Lately, it feels like He has been revealing things to me one by one, almost as if every lesson is arriving back-to-back without giving me much time to prepare. Maybe there is wisdom in that. Maybe there is growth hidden somewhere inside all of this. And if that’s the case, then I pray for the strength to accept it with grace.

The truth is, I don’t even want to spend my time thinking about it. I don’t want to replay old conversations or search for meanings where there may not be any. But I am human. And perhaps being human means that certain thoughts will visit us whether we invite them or not.

Maybe that is the strange thing about human connections. Two people can sit beneath the same midnight sky, share the same conversation, hear the same words, and yet walk away carrying entirely different versions of what happened. The same moment can leave a lasting mark on one heart while becoming nothing more than a passing memory for another. Neither person is necessarily wrong; they simply experienced it differently.

Of course, I know life is rarely that simple. People can be sincere in a moment and still choose a different path later. Not every meaningful conversation is a promise. Not every connection is meant to become something more.

So maybe I don’t need an answer. Maybe not every question deserves one.

What I do know is that life moves forward. The sun will rise in a few hours, my days will continue, and eventually this feeling will become lighter. It always does.

Perhaps this is simply another reminder that some things are meant to teach us, not stay with us. Some people arrive carrying lessons rather than permanence. And sometimes acceptance is not about forgetting; it is about understanding that not everything we cherish is ours to keep.

So, wherever life takes you, I hope it treats you kindly. I hope you find happiness in the choices you make and peace in the life you’re building.

And as for me, I’ll be okay too. Maybe not today, maybe not immediately, but eventually.

Good luck to you. I genuinely mean that.
