For instance, in environmental management, AI models that prioritize short-term resource extraction can overlook the long-term ecological balance and the cultural significance of certain landscapes to Indigenous communities.

Too often, Indigenous knowledge systems are treated as symbolic — worthy of acknowledgement, but rarely seen as technical equals. Yet these systems are among the most sophisticated technologies humans have ever created.

Incorporating such perspectives into AI can lead to systems that respect and uphold these relationships, rather than disrupting them.
A practical application could be AI-driven land management tools that not only analyze environmental data but also incorporate Indigenous land-use practices, oral histories, and seasonal cycles. Such tools would ensure that development projects align with both ecological sustainability and cultural preservation.
