Review: The Man in the Iron Mask 4k Blu-ray

The Man in the Iron Mask’s 4k upgrade is one worth picking up, offering improved visual and audio over the previous releases.

The 4k transfer, which was derived from the original camera negative, makes great use of Dolby Vision and HDR, enhancing colour accuracy, depth and contrast. Skin tones in particular are improved and far more natural than previously.

In contrast, darker scenes offer solid black levels, and the texture detail excels, offering clarity that wasn’t there in the earlier transfers.

The DTS-HD soundtrack provided an immersive experience, and the vibrant score does well on the new format too. There are some issues with dialogue in certain scenes, but that can be fixed with minor tweaks to your system.

That is a minor stumble on an otherwise good disk that offers improvements across the board and plenty of significant technical refinements to previous releases that make it worth picking up.
