The Suhoor Scream: A Mysterious Disappearance Before Fajr

A Cry That Shattered the Night
There was a scream at the beginning.
A voice so unadulterated and filled with fear that it sliced like a razor through the silent night of Ramadan. It was the type of scream that caused your arms to stand on end and your throat to freeze.
It was never forgotten by those who heard it.
It happened right before Fajr, the most sacred and enigmatic hour of night when everything is in between night and day. With the exception of the gentle clatter of plates and the whispers of prayer as families completed their Suhoor, the streets were deserted and the homes were still.
Then —
That yell.
Pain, begging, and something else — something inhuman — filled the brief but heartbreaking experience.
Nothing was left when folks hurried out. No indication of a fight. In the dust, there are no tracks. No broken glass or misplaced items. There was just a spooky, disturbing silence, as though the darkness itself had sucked the scream.
Something — someone — was gone.
Furthermore, nobody knew how.
The Town and Its Shadows
The incident took place in a small town. There, people knew one another, and rumors traveled more quickly than the call to prayer. However, the whispers weren’t merely rumors following the scream.
“It was heard close to the old alley.” “Some claim that the abandoned house is where it originated.” “No, it came from the courtyard of the masjid.”
On the precise location, nobody could agree.
However, they all experienced the same thing: a persistent sense of dread, a weight in the air, as though something invisible was still keeping watch.
Under their breath, the elders said prayers. Children were warned by their parents not to remain out late. Despite the fact that no crimes had been recorded, some people secured their windows and doors.
Because, in reality, nobody wanted to believe their suspicions.
The thing that had screamed was no longer human.
The Search: A Vanishing Without a Trace
The community was in a frenzy by daybreak.
Although they were apprehensive, the police were summoned. A missing person was not officially reported. No proof of criminal activity. But there was no denying the anxiety.
They searched. Neighbors searched the rooftops, basements, and streets. Normally a calm man, the masjid’s imam appeared distressed as he strolled around the grounds, pausing only to place his palm on the chilly stone walls as though he was listening for something.
Nothing.
No blood traces. No clothes were ripped. No effort.
The air was still heavy, though, as though the night itself had engulfed something.
Then the town was shaken by a revelation —
A woman spoke, her voice shaking as she moved forward.
That evening, she had been up cooking for her kids. She had also noticed something.
A Witness to the Unseen
When the scream ripped through the night, Leila, the woman, was sitting close to her window. She had peered out instinctively.
She didn’t see anything at first. The road was deserted, except the faint glow of lamps.
However, then —
Something moved, she noticed.
Darker than the night itself, a shadow. Not running, not walking… but floating by her house at an abnormally high speed.
She wasn’t afraid of the way it moved. The reason for this was that it was silent.
No footsteps. No fabric rustling.
And only for a second, before it vanished down the alley —
She claimed to have seen a face.
Not human, not fully developed. A changing, flickering face that seems unfit to exist in this planet.
Then it vanished.
After that, she had sealed her doors and prayed in hushed tones.
Theories: What Really Happened?
The village had nothing but fear since there was no body, no missing person, and no evidence.
1. The Jinn of the Night
Jinn was whispered about by many in the community. According to Islamic theology, these invisible entities coexist with humankind and are neither entirely benign nor entirely evil. However, some people are harmful.
An elder related a tale:
“People used to know not to stay outside before Fajr. They claimed that it was a time when the line between our world from theirs was thin and the invisible were free to move around. You would never respond if you heard your name called in the dark. You never looked into it if you heard a scream.
Was a Jinn responsible for this? A monster that had re-entered its world with someone or something?
- A Ritual Gone Wrong?
Some thought that a summons had been made. that forces they couldn’t comprehend had been tampered with.
Days earlier, there had been rumors of a strange man talking to himself outside the masjid. According to some, he was carrying out a ritual. Others brushed it off as absurd.
However, what if he had unintentionally opened something?
- A Silent, Unseen Crime
Some held on to a more sensible interpretation. Was this a case of kidnapping? An ideal crime carried out in the middle of the night?
However, why wasn’t there any conflict? Is there no one missing?
Unless, of course, the missing individual had never been there.
The Final Omen
Ramadan is over. The town made an effort to move on. The scream became into a legend and ultimately a myth. The alley where it was last heard was avoided. A few family even relocated.
However, one evening a few months later, right before Fajr —
One youngster cried as he awoke and claimed to have heard someone outside.
The youngster whispered in response to his mother’s question about what he heard:
“A voice. calling my name.
In an attempt to soothe him, she held him close while muttering prayers.
Then she caught sight of something.
There was an open window.
Additionally, the house’s air was quite frigid.
An Unanswered Mystery
Nobody is aware of what transpired that evening. Whether the cry was human or something else is unknown.
However, people who wake up before Fajr still occasionally experience it.
There was a weight in the air. Their skin prickles. When they turn their heads, the shadow in the corner of their eye is gone.
And if they pay close attention —
Some claim that, just below the sound of the morning call to prayer, the scream can still be heard.
Awaiting.
observing.
And looking… for somebody else.
What do you believe?
Was that a Jinn? Is there a mystical power out there at night? Or was it something more sinister, something inexplicable?
Nobody is aware.
And perhaps nobody will.
