This year, I had the privilege of attending the Grace Hopper Celebration India 2024, held in Bangalore, India. Making its return after a five-year hiatus since the last event in 2019, this year’s celebration marked a significant comeback post-COVID. It was an absolute honor to represent Uber at this esteemed event! Themed “me+we”, the conference ran for three inspiring days, from November 20th to 22nd, 2024.

Connecting with colleagues and strangers can feel overwhelming at times, but pushing past the fear and reaching out is always worth the effort.

Three Days of Inspiration, Learning, and Fun

Setting the Stage

The excitement of GHCI 2024 began early with the AnitaB Hackathon. While I missed the final round, which featured the top 10 teams, it was inspiring to read about the innovation on Hackathon page. The first day gave me the chance to collect my badge and explore the venue — a strategic move to avoid long queues on subsequent days.

Powerful Kickoff

The event started on an energetic note with a fitness session led by Shwetambhari Shetty, followed by a rousing live performance of the me+we anthem by Mega Olivia. The music and movement embodied the spirit of unity and empowerment — I matter, we matter!

Brenda Darden Wilkerson and Shreya Krishnan delivered impactful messages, reminding the audience that every voice matters and that embracing individuality is a strength, not a limitation.

Each speaker shared powerful insights on fostering an inclusive community and emphasized the importance of collaboration, resilience, and continuous learning in breaking barriers and shaping the future of technology.

Celebration of Growth and Community

I attended a diverse range of sessions, spanning topics such as cybersecurity threat management, quantum computing, Generative AI in software development, and the transformative framework of ACTion (Act, Change, Transform). I also had the opportunity to attend multiple insightful sessions led by our Uber team, each offering unique perspectives. Each session opened a new window into the possibilities of tomorrow’s tech landscape.

Highlights from GHCI Sessions

Between sessions, I found a moment of serenity at the Book Nook, a cozy space where technology met literature. I even indulged my creative side at the Art Nook, splashing colours to express my GHCI journey. I even explored various career booths and collected souvenirs.

The final day was a blend of reflection and celebration. I began with a book reading of Be Financially Smart, which offered practical insights on managing finances. A session on imposter syndrome by Anil Thomas resonated deeply, reminding me of the importance of self-belief.
