XO’s: Asuu Divided Over Strike Suspension, Holds NEC Meeting
Barring a last-minute change, the Academic Staff Union of Universities may call off its indefinite strike on Thursday (today).
Findings by The PUNCH revealed that while some universities voted for the suspension of the strike, others voted for conditional suspension.
One of our correspondents, however, gathered that at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, the branch did not reach a consensus.
A source within the branch said, “No agreement was reached. Members agreed to follow the decision of the union’s National Executive Committee. Remember, we were on strike before the national body declared a strike.”

Like I said the very minute that Femi Gbajabiamila and his folks from the esteemed green chambers announced that an agreement had been reached with ASUU, the 7-month strike could actually be called off any moment from now. As a matter of fact, a majority of the various branches have voted for the suspension of the strike.
Yeah, that majority though don’t include my alma mata, they already were on strike before then is the excuse they gave but ask any graduate from the greatest and they will tell you that we just like Aluta… from Top to Bottom.
Anyways away from OAU and back to ASUU. The one big wait that NEC is waiting for is the President’s posture on the salaries that weren’t paid during the strike. They might say all they want about the strike being all about the improvement of the university system but you can bet your last thousand bucks that ASUU ain’t gonna forgo a single penny of their salaries earned or not, merited or not, after all, they are but a member of the caustic civil service that bedevils the Nigerian society.
Some schools voted for a conditional suspension and if I am a soothsayer of any credence I would put my money on that as the part that ASUU would thread. A technical suspension on the grounds that they would resume their functions as long as President Buhari pays them every penny of their salaries due from February till October.
No we all know the President is the exact definition of a solid object, he is hardly moved or shaken by emotions pleas, or tugs to the heart that bedevils the rest of us. So while the Strike might be called off, I see the monster rearing its ugly head in the not-too-distant future.
