Haiku: Water Wings
The eagle has not landed…
While many of my posts follow a set format, I throw in an oddball every now and then. Like this one. Usually, my haiku are part of the post’s image. In this case, I have three photos and the haiku is only in text format. I hope it still works.
And, so, this post begins…
I was recently in Occoquan, Virginia, and stopped to take a few photos along the river even though it was a gray, wintry day. There are a lot of different birds that make that area home. This includes bald eagles. I hadn’t seen one there recently, though, and this one surprised me by swooping along the river. With only my phone camera at the ready (and it’s not a fancy phone), I started snapping pictures as quickly as I could.

The eagle dove towards the water, likely in an attempt to catch a fish. The Occoquan River is a popular fishing spot for both people and these birds of prey. Though it wasn’t successful this time, it was beautiful to watch as it rose back up into the air.

Then the eagle flew off towards the woods.

The haiku is:
Over the water, The eagle spreads its broad wings; The lucky fish lives
Okay, I give! Just in case you insist the haiku be a part of the picture, here it goes…
