Each spring, the kingdom got ready for the Great Roar. The old dragon would sit on the mountain and let out a huge roar that echoed far and wide. People said the roar woke up the flowers, melted the last bits of snow, and let everyone know spring had arrived. But this year, the dragon just cleared his throat.

“Ahem…”

Instead of a roar, only a small, scratchy croak came out. The squirrels looked confused. The dragon tried again, but only coughed up harmless smoke. Embarrassed, he crawled back to his cave, worried he had spoiled spring. A young herbalist climbed up the mountain with honey, lemon, peppermint leaves, and a warm mug of tea.

She said, “Even legendary dragons catch colds.”

For three days, the dragon rested instead of roaring. The villagers thought something bad would happen, but they were surprised. Without the loud roar, they heard the sounds of spring they had never noticed before: bees buzzing, streams trickling, and the wind moving.

When the dragon felt better, he took a deep breath and let out the most amazing roar anyone had ever heard. The valley cheered. Then, he winked and finished with a small, scratchy growl on purpose. The crowd laughed so much they almost fell down.

After that, the Great Roar always ended with one little scratchy sound. It reminded everyone that even legends sometimes need tea, rest, and a good laugh. And so, the tradition changed a little, but for the better.

The villagers gathered for the roar and the celebration around it. They brought food, played music, and shared stories about springs past. Children would imitate the dragon’s scratchy growl, making everyone laugh.

The herbalist was always there with her tea, just in case anyone needed an extra cup. The Great Roar became a signal for spring; it became a festival of kindness and community, reminding everyone that small changes can lead to the happiest memories.
