How I Almost Died

I’m going to tell you about the day I died of embarrassment, except I didn’t actually die, which is unfortunate because death would’ve been easier to recover from.

This is about Indori Ishq — the web series. And before you judge me for watching it, let me say: I’m not defending, I’m just explaining myself. There’s a difference. One requires integrity, the other just requires honesty.

So I watched it, and like any good piece of media designed to burrow into your brain, it left me with a song. That song. You know the one. “Jab tumhe akele mein meri yaad ayegi.” — it’s about someone remembering you when they’re alone, which is either romantic or vaguely threatening depending on the context.

The song haunted me. No, that’s too dramatic. The song accompanied me. I hummed it in the shower. While brushing my teeth. During moments of silence.

And then came that afternoon.

It was a fine noon. The house was empty. I should mention here that an empty house does something to a person. It transforms you. You become the main character.

Privacy isn’t just the absence of people — it’s permission.

So I grabbed my laptop, opened my zip (of the headphone case), pulled them out, put them on, and hit play.

And then I sang.

I performed with full volume and delusional confidence with maximum emotional investment.

When I opened my eyes.

There he was.

My father.

And we all know the classic indian father-son relationship. I stood there, frozen, headphones still in, halfway through “Aasuon ki baarish mein…”, wondering if I should move out or just fake amnesia.

He just looked at me and silently walked away.

I learned something that day:

Privacy isn’t the absence of people — it’s a door you should’ve locked.

So, Jyoti♡ Vishal (yeah, I did it again). There are many moments, but today I remembered this one. Ayushi, this song was also my favourite for a while, so here it is — with a little story.

Happy Oops-tober! Rishita and the Cupcake gang.
