Wisconsin TV station Vs “Steele & Chop”

We all know how unreliable modern day media can be and it just astounds me how little effort is put into just making a simple google search. Today we are going to take a look into two hilarious comedians who totally sidestepped WEAU-TV and managed to make an appearance despite having any of the stated credentials (a lot like people do with their resumes).

When you take a look at the first 15 seconds of video on the aired footage it becomes evident that this is a joke. The entirety of the show is Chop and Steele performing extremely basic human functions in adverse ways while displaying a “strongman physique” that is non existent. You’re going to tell me that somehow nobody in the studio said, “hey let’s do a background check” before displaying them on live television for the entire state to see? The duo was funny enough but the actions of WEAU-TV are what really get me. How do you allow guests on your show to appear without even validating the credentials they have? Does that mean if I told them I had super powers that I could be on TV too?

The fact that this was undeniably the fault of WEAU-TV does not stop them from however suing said comedic duo. Let me put it to you this way, they were really embarrassed and they want compensation. That’s not an assumption by the way.

“The anchor emailed us the following day saying, ‘well-played you guys.’ But I guess the parent company is embarassed so I guess they want to sue out of embarassment.”

It seems as though Gray Television (owner of WEAU-TV) is suing the duo for the lack of talent. Not only this but they are making a court order to take all profits of the duo’s online parody website which archives really bad VHS instructional videos (content similar to what was displayed on the show).

Comedy aside, I hope this is able to illustrate how little the media is going to make an effort to find reliable sources of information before blatantly exposing specific claims. I feel the duo has gone above and beyond there call of duty as comedians and have shed light on a broader issue. When the media makes sweeping statements about any particular piece of information that cause a public discourse, the heroic duo has made it easier to understand that they probably just picked it up without doing any real research. They could have picked it up from the trending news of a make believe politician or a no-name blogger which they could then make fact.

It’s a dangerous power that I believe should be practiced with a little more responsibility. It’s okay though, the more often this occurs the more the citizens of our great nation will realize that the media becomes progressively obsolete. It will always be our responsibility to do our own research and confirm our own knowledge before backing a claim.

At the end of the day, these are just two brave souls who decided to troll a news station. Is what they did wrong? Fuck no. If the studio had any semblance of intelligence they would have done at the very least done a GOOGLE SEARCH. This is just a blog post, don’t take things to seriously.
