Wedding events across India facing the brunt during Omicron

The new form of coronavirus arrived in India when the country was amidst a bustling wedding season.
According to the Confederation of All India Traders, as many as 25 lakh **destination weddings** took place between November and December after limits on gatherings were eased lately following more than a year of Covid-19 precautions.
Before indulging in the omicron effects on marriages in India, let’s recognize the variant.
The new form is a subtype of the virus that causes COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2. As of December 2021, it is the most recent variety. On November 24, 2021, South Africa reported it to the World Health Organization (WHO). On November 26, 2021, the WHO designated it as a variant of concern and dubbed it “Omicron.” Compared to previous form of the problem, Omicron is far more contagious (spreading much faster) and extends around 70 times faster in the bronchi (lung airways). Still, it cannot penetrate deep lung tissue, which may explain why there is a significant reduction in the risk of severe disease requiring hospitalization. Because of its exceptionally rapid rate of spread and capacity to resist both double vaccination and the body’s immune system, the overall number of patients requiring medical treatment at any given moment remains a significant worry.
Concerns of Medical Professionals
The quantity and location of mutations detected in the variation prompted the World Health Organization to label the virus a “variant of concern” within a few days of the first case being reported to them by South Africa. Spike proteins on a virus’s surface aid in the virus’s entry into the host cell. The virus possesses 26–32 spike protein mutations, twice as many as the Delta variation, making it twice more infectious and transmissible.
Impact of Omicron on Indian Weddings
While some states reported an increase in cases, the new variation of concern hasn’t put a damper on wedding festivities since hotels booked for destination weddings have seen no cancellations due to the virus.
Destination weddings became more popular in Udaipur, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Kochi, Mussoorie, and Dehradun. According to the latest data, airport footfalls grew to 713,550 in December, and departures increased.
Wedding Planners said
Despite new variant worries, “big fat Indian Weddings are back”. Despite government, rules have driven families and **wedding planners in India** to the brink of bankruptcy.
Cross the bridge when you come to it
If there’s baraat, there should be band and baaja not far after. Although the pandemic has impacted event planners and band services, some renowned planners feel that one should not live according to viruses or variations. They should all keep going forward in our lives. They should continue working with the motto “jo hoga Dekha jayega” in our daily lives. No one knows what the future holds for us, but for the time being, our emphasis is on our professions and enhancing the quality of our plans.
Dealing with Omicron, the sourpuss!
Weddings essentially went as planned, and hosts, event organizers, and suppliers crossed their fingers. It was a new hurdle, to be sure, but they made a step towards positivity and hope, which quickly faded, and they didn’t have to compromise on the design, décor, or entertainment after months of preparation.
Omicron’s shadow over wedding
The resurrected Covid danger comes amid a busy wedding season. The sector has regained ground with rules relaxed and vaccines in full gear, as seen by fully booked palaces and hotels.
Local Destinations
With foreign commercial travel still unclear, destination weddings turn local, with Himachal being the famous and Mussoorie, Goa, and Rajasthan following suit. The decor for a destination wedding began with a minimum budget of Rs5 lakh, and the final cost soared into crores.
Experts weigh in: The new variation is cause for alarm
Though COVID-19 cases have been declining in most countries, the recent surge in cases elsewhere in the world, as well as the confirmation of a ‘variant of concern,’ serve as a reminder of the virus’s pervasiveness and the need for us to continue doing our best to protect against it and prevent its spread. We must not, under any circumstances, relax our watch. Comprehensive and specialized public health and social measures must be maintained to avoid transmission. The sooner preventive measures are put in place, the less restricted they must be to be effective. The longer COVID-19 circulates, the more opportunity it has to adapt and evolve, and the pandemic will persist longer.
Here is a checklist to help you stay safe when visiting Indian weddings
It is still dangerous to arrange or attend a wedding; nevertheless, by taking the necessary steps, you can secure your safety. Please bear in mind that if you are unable to attend a marriage because to the pandemic, you may gracefully refuse the invitation. If you are unsure about organising or attending one, here are a few pointers to keep your surroundings and yourself safe:
When organizing a wedding, make a safety checklist
· The function can be streamed live to guests who were unable to attend owing to safety concerns.
· Use contactless greeting etiquettes like salaam, a bow, or Namaste.
· To make your guest feel comfortable, use social distancing standards. Additional tables for seating with more space between each visitor can be added.
· Seating meals will keep your visitors away from the food at the buffet or bar. If you want a buffet, set up many smaller stations.
When attending weddings, adopt the following precautions
· Take the mask with you.
· Keep your distance.
· Wash your hands frequently.
· Whenever possible, spend time outside.
· Keep track of the symptoms.
I hope you would follow WHO’s warnings and proposals and do your part to limit the spread of the virus in India.
