I Don’t Have It In Me, Here’s Why!

Boredom and Open-Mindedness is a DANGEROUS combination!

As far back as I can remember, there never was a game that didn’t keep me on the edge of my seat. I swore by every game I ever bought, that was until I came across Assassin’s Creed Origins. Now, I spent a good amount of time on that game and I felt like I was hitting a stride of sorts.

A few nights ago, I was playing said game, it was the early morning hours somewhere between the 12:40a to 1:06a hour; I was playing the game a little before that. But anyway, I forced myself to get as far as possible, and I realized that dream finally being able to head into Giza to go after the Hyena.

During those 26 minutes that I was trying to keep focus, something happened. I couldn’t keep going, it wasn’t due to a lack of trying, it was due to being so bored with the game. I mean, there are some highlights, but it falls very short.

There were some Greek mentions, and it was fun learning about the pyramids’ past rulers and whatnot, it was good bludgeoning enemy soldiers with my Copper Mace, but even the huge impact that used to have lost much of said impact.

I mean, it got to a point where there was nothing of interest, I mean even most of the game’s challenge factor was depleted when I got around lv. 42, and I killed all 10 bounty hunters. I didn’t even want to finish because there just a few Order of the Ancient members along the lines of 1 or 2 possibly 3 but even that wasn’t worth sitting through the rest of the game for. I was bored beyond imagining.

I love that I have an open mind about games, trying certain games and finding reasons to ensure they make the grade, but as I learned many times before even now, open-mindedness about certain games can lead you down the path of boredom, especially if that game is nothing like its predecessors.

Back during my Chrono Cross days, I used to think that Chrono Cross was never going to be an awesome game and worthy sequel to Chrono Trigger. Turns out, it was. Chrono Cross made the grade for several reasons, and one of them was that you transfer elements from the people you were with to the new people you plan to take.

For example, if you’re storming Fort Dragonia in the Home World, you have a party of Lynx/Serge, Marcy and Zappa. You would take the elements off them and put them on, say, Radius and Zoah. If they’re going to be part of the 3 you take. But I digress!

Assassin’s Creed Unity, I played a little bit of that, and I don’t know what the fuck I was thinking. There is nothing great about that game either and was bored to tears within minutes, it was a trial run, but it was one of the most terrible of my gaming career.

See, A.C. Odyssey and Valhalla were great games because the content they contained was great beyond measure. With Odyssey, you got to fight as a Spartan with ties to Atlantis and knowledge everlasting. You got to experience everything that made you feel like you were playing through a past God of War game in the present day Athens, Greece.

A.C. Odyssey IS THE best A.C. game to ever exist. Valhalla, you took on the role of Eivor who was introduced to the ways of the Hidden Ones through his brother and friend Basim who is Baghdad born and raised.

But what made Valhalla great was that you got the true Nordic experience by finding legendary weapons thru fighting Zealots and sailing to uncharted waters and you ended with Odin’s legendary spear, Gungnir.

This spear has got me out of a lot of shit when I was on my missions dicking around in Paris, France. I’ve never seen so many damn rats in my entire life. Thanks to Gungnir’s special ability, I kept the rats at bay and was able to go on about my business.

A.C. Origins, the best they could do is go back to the days of the pyramids and how they connect to the Order of the Ancients, but there’s no legendary weapons of great power or even a reason to care about all of these pharaohs and all that.

Yu-Gi-Oh Legacy of the Dualist fills that role, and the game does a better job of it. This is one Assassin’s Creed game I’ll never play again because it just fell flat in every area.

I recently got back into Wo Long Fallen Dynasty and was trying out some new things with the game, I’m looking forward to going back to it in the future. I’m going to start getting out of the whole open-mindedness mode about games and only get the ones that appeal to me.

I’m always looking for a challenge, but I also want to learn as well, video games shouldn’t just be all about action and adventure but also teach us certain things about the world or the world of the character(s) we’re using.

That’s why I love A.C. Odyssey, I learned so much about Alexios and Kassandra, but I also learned about a dangerous cult and with the DLCs, I learned about other parts of appeal regarding the Greek world or should I say, underworld and underwater. That game made me care about the Greek world, but I was also hunted down by endless bounty hunters, equipped armors and weapons of great power with special abilities. I can go on and on.

From this point on, I’m going to take my game buying and studies very seriously. If the game can’t keep me entertained beyond those first 5 minutes, I’m not buying it! Period!

If A.C. Origins and my experience with it is anything to go by, it taught me to not make the same mistake twice or anymore. In the end, this was waste of money is.
