I Made My First Dollar on YouTube Before I Was Monetized

I started making money on YouTube four years before my channel got monetized.

It surprises almost everyone I share this with.

They immediately ask, “how did that happen?”

Well, most budding YouTube creators are stuck. They can’t imagine things beyond the horizon.

Indeed, money-making from YouTube isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. You have to invest a lot of sweat and effort into it.

Without any further ado, let’s get right into it.

The Secret to Earning Your First Dollar on YouTube

Based on my 10+ years of experience, there are three key elements of earning your first few dollars on YouTube without the partner program. Take a look at them:

1. Building a niche-based YouTube channel

One of the most underestimated strategies for making money on YouTube is to start a niche YouTube channel.

Some of you might wonder: what’s a niche channel?

Well, a niche channel means the channel’s content revolves around a specific genre; for instance, used cars in downtown Los Angeles can be a very niche topic as compared to sports cars in the US.

So, the next time you think about starting a YouTube channel, brainstorm your niche-based topics to cover in your videos.

I built a “**YouTube Video Ideas Planner**” to help creators brainstorm their niche topics and come up with genuine video ideas for their YouTube channels. It’ll be the best $3 you’ll ever spend online.

The worst thing you can do to a YouTube channel is to start uploading multi-niche content on the same channel.

If you really want to earn your first dollar from YouTube, then don’t think about making money for the first few months. Instead, try to deliver as much value as you can to build trust. The pieces will fall into place.

2. Aligning your strength or skill with content

Don’t ever start a YouTube channel on a topic you know nothing about. You should never hop on YouTube to start a channel in the hot niche just because it’s working for a friend.

I’d highly recommend starting a YouTube channel around a topic you’re comfortable with. Otherwise, you’d give up after two months or so.

Analyze your strengths, skills, or passions to start a channel. Some niches have more monetization opportunities than others, which is fine. However, try to create a balance. Choose a niche that has earning potential, and you’re interested in it as well.

You should never start a channel in a lucrative niche that you have zero interest in. The reason is that you’d eventually give up on it because of the lack of interest.

The easiest way to analyze the earning potential of a niche is to see whether or not there are existing YouTube channels in the niche.

3. Creating a sellable offer based on the market demand

You can always create hundreds of offers, whether they’re courses, ebooks, or templates, but they’d only sell if they solve real-life problems.

Most creators realize this secret after a long time — if you figure this out right in the beginning of your YouTube journey, you’ll already be ahead of many creators.

A sellable offer means a problem-solving product that is designed for a specific segment of the audience that needs this badly.

For instance, you can either make a user guide for Windows 11 users (which will be a generic PDF guide) or you can create a guide for solving “invalid partition table” error for Windows users.

Create specific yet relevant digital products that fulfill the market’s demands, and you’re good to go!

How I Made My First Dollar from YouTube

I made my first few dollars from YouTube after two years of starting my vlog channel. I was invited to cover a tech summit in my vlog, and they gave me a small cheque.

It was the first time I got paid for making my YouTube vlogs. It was that moment when I realized that this YouTube thing could be a side hustle — I started taking it more seriously than ever.

As a result, I started receiving more PR packages and getting invitations for events.

In fact, I wrote a short PDF ebook covering different monetization methods I was using to make some money from YouTube.

You must read: **How I Made My First $100 on YouTube Without the Partner Program**.

It’ll give you some perspective on YouTube money-making opportunities, especially how anyone can figure this out and start making money on YouTube without being eligible for the YouTube Partner Program.
