Many of God’s servants go through persecution, which means the cruel, unfair, or abusive treatment of a person or a group over a long time. When truth seems delayed, faith teaches us to rest in the certainty that God is both our refuge and our righteous Judge. God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).

Today, the 40th day after experiencing God’s vindication, I’m urged to write on forgiveness and the peace of God. All these 40 days were a little uncomfortable and involved in spiritual warfare. Even after the enemy had been destroyed by God, some kind of unexplainable occupancy of the mind regarding the previous hurt was experienced. In the search for an answer, I realized the art of forgiving and taking back only the lessons learnt to move forward.

When HE sustained me through every persecution, at HIS perfect time, truth will prevail. I learnt that His peace is found in forgiveness, and His harmony is the way of life. Forgiveness is a voluntary process of letting go of negative emotions toward an offender.

The Judge:

Every trial in life is an invitation to grow. I wanted to encourage you with a verse: “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Matthew 7:1,2) The enemy will be judged in the same way they measured you when it is God’s judgment. “For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil” (Ecclesiastes 12:14). God alone, who gave the law, is the judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy (James 4:12). Our job is not to judge people for their actions. It is all under His control. No one can hurt us more than our tolerance point. Joseph stayed still through all his persecutions, and one day the truth set him free by honoring him next to the King (Genesis 37–41).

Forgiveness:

Why should we forgive when someone has done wrong to us? Human nature says we have to fight back verbally, with actions, and through legal platforms at the last. But try letting go for your future self, rather than dragging your present or the past into the future! “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you” (Colossians 3:13). Paul, who had a heavy past, emphasizes the spiritual necessity of leaving former mistakes behind. “But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal…” (Philippians 3:13, 14). Forgiving may be hard; divert yourself in journaling, write every single one of your pains, emotions, and the current state of mind. Try writing the solutions too if you can figure it out. Today, tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after, you will find healing. You will start noticing the things you should be grateful for and not have regrets. Worries are the devil’s weapon to destroy your present and stunt your growth for the future!

Faith:

Faith is complete reliance on God’s promises and truth. It acts as an internal certainty about unseen spiritual realities. “For we live by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). Faith is about trusting God when you have unanswered questions. Years back, I had so many unanswered questions, and I was trying to find answers and reasons for the situations. Later I learnt that not all questions will have answers and not all answers can satisfy a soul seeking peace; it is better to leave it and move on. “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” (Isaiah 43:18,19). “Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over instead of craving control over what you don’t” (Steve Maraboli).

Peace:

The Hebrew title Sar Shalom means he doesn’t just give peace; HE is the very author and ruler of it. Turning anxiety into prayer, promising that God’s peace will guard hearts and minds (Philippians 4:6,7). Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace, and when He dwells within us, the shame, pride, guilt, anger, inferiority, etc., get healed up by His precious blood, and we receive peace that no human, material things can give to us. “Peace I leave with you; the peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (John 14:27). To find peace, you must sometimes be willing to lose your communication with people, places, and things that create all the noise in your life. Peace begins when you take a first step to forgive others and forgive yourself.

Dear friends,

Whatever you are going through today will end one day; when it will end is in God’s hands. Learn to forgive and forget people who persecuted you and keep faith in the future. The Lord is waiting for you to leave behind what cannot be fixed by you. Embrace the trials permitted on your journey. People and circumstances will come and go, but each is orchestrated to shape you into who you are meant to become. God holds a beautiful purpose for your future; by forgiving others while holding onto the lessons learned, you pave the way to a divine peace that only He can provide…!

All glory to God alone…
