AI, Ghost, Or Glitch? You Decide!

Trying to book a cab in Seoul

R and I wait for our Uber ride in downtown Seoul.

R checks his phone. “Cab’s here.”

“Where?”

A cab idles across the street. “Is that our guy?” I ask.

“Yeah… but he’s supposed to pick us up here.”

I wave my arms madly. But the cabbie is looking away from us. We can’t run across to the other side; a long divider blocks the way.

R phones the driver. The driver doesn’t understand English; R doesn’t speak Korean. The cabbie zooms off. R cancels the ride.

“Let’s try the other side,” I say.

We cross via the underground walkway. Lots of steps. Huffing.

We book a cab. It shows up across the road, in the exact spot we had waited before.

Rinse. Repeat. Cancel ride. We take a bus.

I think R’s phone is possessed by a ghost or AI. Or a glitch?
