A Workaround for Newsletters
Highlighting stories

I’m sending this as a newsletter for a reason. As far as I know, there’s been a fun feature missing in Medium newsletters — we can’t just copy a story’s URL into it and get the same results we would in a regular story.
Example: If I wish to send guidelines for this publication inside a newsletter. If I added the URL, this is what I would get:
https://medium.com/digging-up-bones-new-life-for-old-stories
To make it more usable, I will have to do something like this:
Guidelines for Digging Up Bones — Create a heading, then add the URL as an insert. It works, but there’s no picture.
What if I wanted to do this, instead?
[embed]Digging Up Bones Bringing good, old stories back to life to live and be read another day.medium.com
or this:
Guidelines for Digging Up Bones

Aha!!!! It can be done. I’ve struggled with this for a while. When I asked Medium if there was a feature that allowed this, they said it wasn’t available. For some reason, I thought it was years ago, but I could be mistaken.
Either way, I did my best to highlight a story, just like in the example above.
Yesterday, I saw a Newsletter from Rishita Sharma💗, who added a rectangle box with a heading, short description, and a picture, the usual way. I couldn’t wait to ask her how she did it. As I was typing my request, I had a ‘what if’ moment. I thought, ‘What if I created the URL in a plain story first, then copied it?’
I tried it, and guess what, it worked.
I hope this makes sense, and I hope those who love to highlight stories in their newsletters find it easy. Luckily, you can do more than one at a time.
Easy workaround
Open the ‘write’ tab. Open the story you wish to highlight. Copy and paste the URL into the new story. You can do more than one. Copy and paste these directly into your newsletter.
If there is another way to do this, or if there is a command I’m missing, please do let me know.
Happy reading and writing, everyone!
Testing on more than one:
I copied these directly from a regular story for testing purposes.
