Extending the Power of Siri+Apple Intelligence

Now that the upcoming Siri + Apple Intelligence (Siri AI) is showing great potential, I am hoping that third-party applications will soon interface with it via App Intents. Currently, data in Apple apps is available as a data source for Siri AI, allowing for hyper-personalized responses. It has access to your Apple Mail, Calendar, Messages, and Photos to start with, but knows nothing about data stored in third-party applications (unless the application supports App Intents). App Intents allows developers to “(M)ake content and actions discoverable by Apple Intelligence and support system experiences like Siri, Spotlight, Shortcuts, and widgets.” ( Apple Developer Documentation: App Intents). I don’t need Siri AI to compose my e-mail, create a file, re-post a toot or a post, or even to edit anything; what I want is for Siri AI to be able to read data in the third-party apps I have on my device. Yep, READ ONLY. Here is a list of third-party applications that I wish get opened up with App Intents (in no particular order):

NetNewsWire & Tapestry

I have carefully created feeds from different sources stored in these reader apps, and it would be great for Siri AI to be able to tap on them and create summaries at the beginning of the day.

Fastmail

Fastmail is where my work-related email is stored. All personal email is on Apple’s Mail, which is already accessible to Siri AI. Since Fastmail has an MCP for other GenAI agents already, why not offer the same App Intents for Siri AI?

Koofr & Nextcloud

Siri AI has access to the files on my devices. Now, if those files are hosted in third-party cloud storage, then it would be great if Siri AI could access them, provided, of course, the files are cached locally.

Micro.blog

Imagine if Siri AI could process all your blog posts for the last six (6) months (or maybe longer) that are cached on your device? Wouldn’t that be awesome?

Note that the assumption here is that data on these third-party apps is cached on the device, which limits the data that is indexed, but then again, maybe Siri AI can also access the data stored in the cloud, like iCloud. I guess we will see.
