Ways on How to Unwind: Quarantined Edition

By Klarize Daniele

The world is on a global hiatus. Can you see how powerful this invisible virus is? This enemy, which we cannot see, downturned our world and forced us to have a new normal set-up.

I am staring at my to-do task board, wanting the tasks to move by themselves so I can take a rest and have a stress-free day without feeling guilty because of the unfinished requirements. Sadly, I know that is not how it is going to be. However, I still keep on staring, unbothered by the fact that I’ve wasted so much time.

What am I going to do? I am in too much stress to think of anything and I do not know where nor how to start. I know I will not be able to do anything if I keep on idling, but I need to unwind so that I can think clearly and sensibly. But how? There is a pandemic going on! Just then, ideas pop into my mind.

Since we cannot do much outside because of this “invisible enemy,” this is a great opportunity for us to have a quality time with our family. We can play, watch, and cook together and we can also talk to them about our fears and concerns. This is a great time to catch up about the lives of one another. Staying virtually connected with our loved ones is also important.

Being a fur mom or dad is also an advantage, animals are cute and they keep good company. They can also sense when we are stressed and often, they will try to comfort us to the best that they can. In addition, we can play with our pets and talk freely to them without being judged. Isn’t it good when we have someone to talk to even if they cannot talk back to us?

If having a pet is not your thing, try these viral hobbies: be a plant tita or tito as it’s not only therapeutic but can be a great deal of help to our environment by purifying the air which is what we actually need to keep us healthy and strong.

If cooking or baking is your passion, now is the time to go back to it. Whether you cook for your family or for yourself, it would be a great feeling to be able to accomplish what we want. If boredom strikes, you can also start working out, meditating or doing yoga exercises. Not only can these make your body fit but can also strengthen your immune system.

If you love dancing, dance whenever you feel like it. If you love singing, sing from the top of your lungs. If you are too tired to move, you can read, play games, and binge-watch movies, k-dramas, and TV series.

You can also start writing, painting, or drawing if you want to! This quarantine can really reveal anyone’s talent and hidden passion. Have yours sprung up yet?

Do not feel guilty when you think you are doing nothing, just do not let the situation consume your mental health. Each one of us has different coping mechanisms. Everyone is different and everyone will experience different emotions at different times. You can sleep or eat if you want, just make sure not to overdo it! As much as possible, maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Staying mentally healthy is important because it provides a great deal of impact in our overall health. Do not feel bad for taking some time off to unwind. We need to love ourselves first and doing so is not selfish at all. Choose self-care for life and choose happy thoughts to sustain our vigor positively. After all, our mental health is as valuable as our physical health.
