Fast and the Furious: Fast X Features the Most Shocking Franchise Return of Them All

There’s more than one return in Fast X, and this one is nearly as tough to imagine as the other but for different reasons.

It’s time for the Fast and the Furious saga to continue with Fast X. If Jason Momoa coming on board with Brie Larson wasn’t enough, there’s at least one member of the franchise returning that nobody imagined was possible. And no, I’m not talking about a return from the beyond Paul Walker.

Stay for the after-credits. There’s a mid-credit scene where a masked man is searching Dante’s hideout. The phone rings, and the masked man answers. It’s Dante, and he’s calling to remind him of what he did to his father.

When unmasked, it’s none other than Dwayne Johnson, A.K.A. Hobbs. Every fan of the series, or anyone that follows Hollywood dirt, has been aware of the rift between Dwayne Johnson and the Fast franchise’s leading man, Vin Diesel. Even a year ago, Johnson was quoted as saying he’d not be coming back to the franchise.

What mended the fences, especially for the multifaceted superstar that Johnson has become, is anyone’s guess. At the end of the day, when there’s enough money on the table, people will do business. As the highest-paid actor of 2022, Dwayne Johnson isn’t about to leave cash on the table over what sounded like a d*** measuring contest between two Hollywood alpha males.

Fast X opens this weekend, and if past successes of the Fast franchise tell us anything, it’s bound to be a busy weekend at the box office.
