Honda Recall Warning: 880,000 SUVs and Trucks at Risk of Rear Suspension Failure

A major safety alert is affecting Honda and Acura owners. Over 880,000 vehicles, including Honda Pilot, Ridgeline, Passport, and Acura MDX models, are being recalled due to rear suspension corrosion that could lead to loss of control and serious accidents.

The recall primarily impacts vehicles sold in salt-heavy states such as Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, where winter road salt accelerates corrosion.

The Risk

The problem centers on the rear subframe suspension mounting points. Corrosion in this area can weaken critical connections, potentially causing the rear control arms to fail. This can drastically affect vehicle handling during turns, braking, or emergency maneuvers, creating a serious safety hazard.

Even well-maintained vehicles may be at risk, as corrosion develops out of sight beneath the vehicle. Winter driving conditions, moisture, and road salt can worsen the problem without any warning signs.

What Owners Should Do

1. Check your VIN: Use NHTSA’s recall lookup tool or Honda’s recall system to see if your vehicle is affected.
2. Schedule an inspection: Dealers will inspect the rear subframe and, if necessary, reinforce it or replace components. Repairs are free of charge.
3. Watch for warning signs: clunking sounds, instability, unusual tire wear, or changes in handling should prompt immediate contact with a dealer.

Timing and Dealer Action

Owner notification letters are expected to begin July 7, 2026, but VIN checks are live starting June 10, 2026. Dealers will provide a rear subframe reinforcement kit or perform necessary repairs to restore safe handling.
