5 Grappling Submissions
1) Rear Naked Choke (RNC):

This rear choke is widely used in Grappling and MMA because it allows for an effective neutralization of the opponent. By blocking blood flow to the brain, the opponent is forced to submit, or else they risk losing consciousness within seconds.
Beyond the choke itself, it’s important to note the footwork, which not only immobilizes the opponent’s body but also traps their right arm, as seen in the image on the left.
2) Deashi Harai:

This sweeping technique, which destabilizes the opponent, unfolds in two steps.
First, you grab the opponent’s neck while using your forearm for leverage to tilt them to the side.
Next, you position your lead foot near the opponent’s foot to further disrupt their balance. Ideally, you follow through with the motion, accompanying the fall to ensure a successful takedown.

3) Kouchi Gari

The Kouchi Gari technique involves sweeping the opponent’s leg to make them fall onto their back. This technique unfolds in five steps.
First, when both opponents are standing face-to-face, the initial movement consists of grabbing the opponent’s arm to control and block it, as shown below:

Russian Tie (Mouvement 1)
Next, we need to get closer to the opponent. To do this, we simply execute the footwork shown below, which involves bringing the back leg behind the front leg:

Mouvement 2
The third movement follows naturally from the second. By pushing off the back leg, you sweep the opponent’s rear leg while simultaneously forcing them to lean forward.

Mouvement 2, 3 et 4
To grab the opponent’s leg and bring them to the ground, you need to move in closer again. This requires placing the leg used for the sweep behind the opponent’s right leg, as shown below.

Continuing the movement, you will grab the opponent’s right ankle and execute the sweep.
To finish, don’t allow your opponent to escape. Follow through with the reversal and immediately position yourself on top of their torso to maintain control.

From there, you have control and are in a dominant position.
4) Imanari Roll
The Imanari Roll is a highly effective technique popularized by Masakazu Imanari, designed to attack the opponent’s legs.
Before breaking down the technique step by step, you can watch its execution in the following video:

The technique can be broken down into five steps. It’s also beneficial to practice backward rolls to ensure a smooth and quick execution.
The starting position for initiating the attack is as follows:

You will lie on your back and grab your opponent’s leg with both hands. This will allow you to use it as support to roll onto your shoulder.
By leveraging your opponent’s leg, you will roll and position yourself as follows:

Can you see the fall coming? The roll itself isn’t strictly necessary, but it serves as a surprise factor that significantly increases the impact. By adding inertia to the movement, it helps destabilize and take down the opponent — represented here in blue.
5) Snap Down Takedown
Here, we will explore a technique that forces the opponent to submit to their knees. How ?
First, both opponents face each other.

The idea here is to engage with the opponent until they lower their head just a little too much. If this happens, you need to react quickly:
1️⃣ Grab the opponent’s neck firmly. 2️⃣ Apply strong downward pressure to force them toward the ground. 3️⃣ Step forward to close the distance. 4️⃣ Lock in a guillotine choke to secure the submission.

The movement doesn’t stop there. While we could continue the guillotine and attempt to neutralize the opponent from this position, our goal here is to force them to their knees.
To do this, we will grab their arm…

…and pull it towards us to force them to fall to their knees.

From there, you are in a dominant position and can transition to take the back.
