🥇 Triggered By The Deadliest Earthquake In European History

On December 28th, 1908, a tsunami struck the Calabrian and Sicily coasts in Italy.
At 05:20:27, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Strait of Messina, which separates Sicily from mainland Italy.
This area is tectonically active, with interactions between the African and Eurasian Plates.

The earthquake almost leveled the town of Messina, destroying at least 90% of its structures.
About 10 minutes later, the sea on both sides of the Strait withdrew, and a 12-meter tsunami swept in.
3 waves will hit the various coastal towns
The town of Messina lost almost half of its population.
It’s hard to get exact figures for such long-standing events, but records put the death toll between 75,000 and 82,000.
