Climate Change and Its Impacts: How changing weather is affecting our everyday routines

By Zoha Shafaqat | Student of Software Engineering, UAF

Introduction:

Climate change is one of major problem today which affects the environment, our health, water, food, education, and even the whole economy. Understand the climate change and the impacts of it on our life is very important for the better future. This article will explain the causes and impacts of climate change and also suggests better solutions to reduce its impacts.

What is Climate Change?

Climate change means long-term changes in the Earth’s temperature and weather conditions. Earlier, the climate changes were happened naturally, like from changes in the sun or big volcanic eruptions.

But since the 1800s, human activities such as pollution, deforestation, and the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) have been the main reason of climate changes. As all these activities releases harmful gases which results in global warming.

Causes of Climate Change:

Human activities are major causes of climate change including:

· Burning fossil fuels: Burning the fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) excretes lot of harmful greenhouse gases.

· Deforestation: Cutting of trees is harmful, as they absorb various gases from atmosphere, including carbon dioxide.

· Air pollution: The smoke coming from factories, vehicles, and industries increase air pollution that includes different chemicals and gases.

· Livestock waste: Animal waste has methane gas and burning this waste releases many harmful gases like nitrous oxide. That increases global warming.

Impacts of Climate Change on daily life:

The impacts of climate change include intense dryness, lack of water, flooding, melting glacier, and loss of biodiversity. Here are some impacts:

· Changing weather patterns: Weather patterns are so unpredictable and unstable (like sudden rains, storms), so that people face difficulty in their daily life planning.

· Food security: Intense droughts and unpredictable weather patterns lead to crop failures, which causes higher grocery prices and shortages of staple foods,

· Health risks: High temperatures can cause dehydration and weakness. Air pollution in the air causes asthma and allergies.

· Water resources: Due to climate changes some areas has less water resources due to dryness. And are experiencing floods where clean drink is less available which affects health.

Pakistan floods (June-September 2025):

Pakistan had faced heavy rains in 2025 from June to September, which results in flooding. These floods affected many areas in almost all provinces of Pakistan including Swat, Lahore, Buner.

From June 27 to 28 2025, intense rainfall increases the water levels in the Swat River, that cause floods. As most of our rivers flows from India include Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej. At that time, India also had been facing heavy rains. So these rivers became overfilled. Then India had flowed these rivers to Pakistan to protect their areas.

Unpredictable weather patterns cause intense rainfall and glacier melting, which increases water in rivers. Due to limited storage capacity of dams, excessive water could not be controlled and had led to floods.

Many people were died, affected, and displaced. Lot of homes, crops, and infrastructure were destroyed and damage. Students were face difficulty to attend their schools. And basic facilities of life like electricity and clean water were also disrupted. This example demonstrates how climate change is badly affecting our daily life.

Solutions and Future Trends:

Here are some solutions that can help to reduce climate changes:

1. Plant more trees: Increase the trees amount because they absorb carbon dioxide and improves air quality.

2. Pollution Reduction: Burning plastic and waste causes pollution, so we should have to avoid it.

3. Improve Infrastructure: Good infrastructure is very important for development so make more dams and improve other water storage systems.

4. Use Technology wisely:

· Fossil fuels generate harmful gases that’s why we should use renewable energy sources.

· Use the vehicles which emits less carbon (i.e., Electric vehicles).

· Satellites are used to track the weather patterns and gives early warnings to people about floods and storms.

Conclusion:

Climate change is growing problem that needs to be controlled. Because this has negative impacts on our life including food, air, etc. However, by taking some actions, such as reducing pollution, utilizing modern technology, and planting more trees, etc., we can reduce the effects of climate change. Using renewable resources is the best option. By mutual efforts, we can protect
