If There’s a Full Moon Out Tonight …

*Monday, July 7 : HORRID*

This drabble is 200 words long, no more, and no less.

Jeannie was a horrid child.

The eldest of five children, she took delight in scaring her youngest siblings.

“There IS a man in the moon,” she said. “You’ll see in a minute when the moon is high in the sky.”

“Well, how did he get in there?” asked the ever-inquisitive Liam. “There are no ladders to the moon, and it would take at least two weeks to fly, given it’s 384,400 km from Earth.”

Liam was the middle child and first son. He loved to share knowledge that he knew Jeannie knew nothing about.

Undeterred, Jeannie responded. “It’s where Aiken Drum lives. You probably don’t know the song about him living on the moon, dressed in food.”

“As if! Where did you get that idea?”

“Gran taught us the song. She used to sit on the front step with me, before you all came along, and sing the song. You’re not a real Scot if you can’t sing it.”

“There was a man who lived in the moon. In the moon. In the moon. There was a man who lived in the moon. And his name was Aiken Drum.

“OMG there he is, and wearing a kilt, not food.”

Thanks for the nudge, Michael John Scott. As soon as I read there’s a man in the moon, the words came flooding back, and I was back in primary school. We used to add a few naughty verses too!
