Turning up every day — that’s the key to progress!

If a thing is worth doing once, it is worth doing over and over again — exploring it, probing it, demanding by this repetition that the public look at it

We all have something we’re trying to get better at and recently I got a chance to see a Rothko exhibition which allowed me to travel across his entire career, what an eye-opener!

I find it easy to get sucked into believing that what people put out into the world is just a result of natural talent and as many of us can get pulled into comparing my work to others but seeing this exhibition recently was a reminder that it’s all a journey and that even Rothko didn’t just start to create those wonderful, engaging, abstract pieces from day one — that he also was on a journey where his work changed and evolved.

And that is true for all of us, whether that’s an art endeavour or whether it’s trying to get better at a language or sport or a musical instrument — all of this requires turning up every day and doing that one thing!

I have a favourite point from Emma Radincanu (British tennis player) that I like to remind myself whenever I’m playing “one point at a time”…. And I think this applies to all things in life — one thing at a time, one foot in front of the other and you know what! If it doesn’t work out, then there’s always another chance to try again…
