The TEFL chapter begins…

Firstly apologies for the late post. It seems keeping to a writing schedule amongst busy happenings is harder than I first thought. However, I shall continue. And I suppose I shouldn’t complain for being busy. For me being busy is good. Busy is living.

So this month is a little exciting as I’m immersing myself in a different city (York) and into an intensive course called CELTA. ‘The essential TEFL qualification that’s trusted by employers, language schools and governments around the world.’ (More info can be found here). So far I have completed my first day of the course, have met a wide variety of interesting members of staff/trainees and am well into my first assignment. Despite being so early into proceedings, from what I have experienced so far I would truly recommend anyone to give this thing a go. There are numerous opportunities to teach the English language to students abroad and you get to meet a fantastic array of people along the way. More info to come soon.

In terms of York and it’s amenities; I’m still yet to check out the Perky Peacock however I have visited Spring Espresso which is on Folgate st and serves up a team who are uncompromising on their coffee quality. The store was refurbished not so long ago, offers a choice of house (redbrick) or guest espresso and a fine selection of sweet produce alongside.

Last night I also decided to make a little excursion to some local bars/pubs to see what the music scene was like. Notable favourites included the Spread Eagle which was hosting a funk/soul/hip hop night and The Habit. Here, the night reached it’s zenith following an encounter with a fine chap dressed up as Henry the VIII attempting to get pre-marriage advice from a group of drunken compatriots. It made for an amusing Friday night for sure and the acoustic set that was being played at the time was wonderful.

This week I’ll leave you with some music, a warm up to next months SUBCULTURE event on the 18th!
