● Check out the list of upcoming sedan cars in India
Over the last decade, sedan cars have faded into the background as SUV has taken over the market. The reason is that consumers now want a vehicle that has an imposing presence and high driving position with good ground clearance. However, if you like driving then sedans are the best choice for you as they handle better than SUVs while also being more stable at triple digit highway speeds.
If you are looking to buy a new car, here is a list of all the sedan cars that are expected to launch in India by the end of 2023.
Toyota Belta
Continuing its global partnership with Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Kirloskar Motors is expected to launch the Toyota Belta sedan in the country. Essentially a rebadged version of the Maruti Ciaz, this new model is expected to launch by mid-2023. The exterior design will be fairly similar to the 2023 Ciaz except for a new front grille and slightly revised bumpers.
On the Inside, the new Belta will get different colours for the dashboard and upholstery. The sedan is also expected to boast a 7-inch Smartplay Pro infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Other notable features include a semi-digital instrument cluster, push-button start/stop, auto climate control, reverse parking camera, sensors and more.
Powering the Belta will be the same 1.5-litre K15B petrol motor that does duty in the Ciaz. This powertrain option is capable of producing 103 bhp of max power and 138 Nm of peak torque.Transmission duties will be handled by the familiar 5-speed manual or 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Škoda Superb
Škoda India has confirmed that it will be introducing the next-gen Superb in India by the end of 2023. The automaker had stopped production of the current-gen model as it didn’t meet the new BS6 Phase II emission norms.
The next-gen Superb’s design will be an evolution over the outgoing model, but will feature some different styling elements. Up front, we can expect the sedan to get new C-shaped LED headlights along with redesigned bumper and grille.
Towards the sides, the silhouette of the new Superb will be identical to the current model but will feature sharper character lines. Moving to the rear, the new model will likely get C-shaped wraparound LED taillights that may be connected to a full-width lightbar while the boot lid will feature an integrated spoiler.
Overall, the design of the new Superb will be more sporty than before.
Moving inside, expect Škoda to pack the new Superb with all the latest features. Key feature highlights will include a larger infotainment system, fully digital instrument cluster, connected car tech, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, premium audio setup, ambient lighting, powered and ventilated seats, auto climate control, and more.
Complying with the new BS6 Phase ll emission norms, we can expect the Skoda to offer a new strong-hybrid powertrain with the new Superb. Globally, the sedan is available with a 1.4-litre TSI petrol paired to a single electric motor. It makes a combined 215 bhp with 400 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties will be handled by a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
BYD Seal
The Seal will be the third new car launch for Chinese automaker BYD in India. Showcased at the Auto Expo, the BYD Seal caught a lot of attention at the event. The exterior design is based on the Ocean X concept and features sleek aerodynamic design with its angular headlights and a wide air dam.
The side profile comprises a strong shoulder line, a glass roof and the sloping roofline behind the B-pillar. The rear end is characterised by its connected tail lights and a faux diffuser.
The Seal’s interior has a minimalist design and is loaded with features like a 15.6-inch swivelling touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, auto climate control, ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera and more. The Seal will also come equipped with Level 2 ADAS features like Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Autonomous Emergency Braking and more.
Globally, BYD offers either a 61.4 kWh battery pack or a 82.5 kWh battery with the Seal. The automaker claims a range of 550 kms for the former and 700 kms for the latter, respectively. Both single motor and dual-motor variants are available, but it is yet to be confirmed which configuration will be launched in India.
MG RC-6
MG Motor India is gearing up to launch its first sedan in India, the RC-6, by July 2023. As showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, the RC-6 will be a unique-looking sedan with a coupe-like roofline and tall ground clearance. Besides, the car will have a good amount of chrome on the large front grille, window line, and boot lid.
The interior of the RC-6 will be loaded with features and creature comforts including a dual-screen setup for infotainment and instrument cluster. Besides, it will offer wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, connected car tech, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, powered driver’s seat, nine-speaker audio setup and more.
In India, the MG RC-6 will likely share its powertrain with Hector. So we can expect the familiar 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor with 141 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. But MG may re-tune it for the new sedan. Besides, the transmission options will include a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic.
