Who am I?

In the current world, this is the question many ask, and many find it hard to answer. Being 41 to date, I seem to suffer from the same question and answer. Who am I, and what the hell have I done for the last 41 years of existence in this world?

Since we have been able to talk, the world has asked us, “Who do you want to be?” This question has been asked in so many instances, from the family to the school, then on to the university, and finally, when you go for your first interview. Still, it’s a question and a dilemma for many people.

Many of us always give this answer based on the following assumption: How can this specific profession or career choice in life provide you with money? How substantial is it in the corporate world? How much can I earn? What kind of life can I live if I become this?

The choice is rarely made based on how fun and exciting it would be, how many lives I could change through this career choice, and whether I would enjoy doing it for the rest of my life.

Today, as I write this article, which I hope to publish online, I think of everyone who has made choices based on financial stability over happiness.

So, you there, now that you are trapped in a profession that you don’t like but that gives you a sum of money that is essential for your future and that of your family, what do you do?

Give up on your dream and live a life of fulfilment, or take on the second path of life to do things you love to do the most for the sake of your future.

Path 1: Give Up on Your Dream and Live a Life of Unfulfillment

Pros:

  1. Stability and Security: This path often leads to a more predictable and stable life. It might offer financial security and a steady routine.
  2. Reduced Risk: Less risk of failure and uncertainty, which can reduce stress and anxiety.
  3. Conventional Success: You might achieve societal measures of success, such as a stable job, home, and traditional career milestones.

Cons:

  1. Lack of Passion: Living a life that doesn’t align with your passions can lead to feelings of dissatisfaction and unfulfillment.
  2. Regret: There might be lingering regret about what could have been if you had pursued your dreams.
  3. Lower Motivation: Lack of enthusiasm for your work can result in lower motivation and productivity.

Path 2: Pursue What You Love for the Sake of Your Future

Pros:

  1. Fulfilment and Happiness: Doing what you love can lead to a more fulfilling and happy life.
  2. Passion-Driven Success: Pursuing your passions can drive you to excel and innovate, potentially leading to more tremendous success.
  3. Personal Growth: This path often involves overcoming challenges, leading to significant personal growth and resilience.

Cons:

  1. Uncertainty and Risk: This path can be more unpredictable, with financial instability and the possibility of failure.
  2. Initial Struggles: The beginning might be challenging, requiring sacrifices and hard work without immediate rewards.
  3. Social Pressure: You might face societal pressure or criticism for not following a conventional path.

Therefore, consider the above and make a decision, taking the steps below as part of the process of making that final decision and changing your life path.

  1. Self-Assessment: Reflect on your values, strengths, and what truly makes you happy.
  2. Research and Planning: Understand what it takes to pursue your passion. Have a realistic plan and backup options.
  3. Risk Management: Consider how much risk you are willing to take and how to mitigate potential downsides.
  4. Support System: Ensure you have a support system, whether it’s family, friends, or mentors.
  5. Long-Term Vision: Consider where you want to be in 10, 20, or 30 years and which path aligns better with that vision.

Ultimately, the choice depends on your personal circumstances, values, and what you believe will bring you the most fulfilment in the long run.

Also, know that living a life without motivation is like running a car without changing the oil. You don’t know when the insides will give in and break down. Inspiration is the component that drives us to go through this journey called life, and it’s not always going to be stable; it’s going to have ups and downs. Therefore, make the better choice for long-term life fulfilment.

One thing you need to understand is that the choices you make are within your control. You are the ultimate controller of where your life will lead. You are in the driving seat, and you have the control to make the choices that suit you. Being happy and fulfilled is what you are meant to do in this lifetime and is the reason for your existence, so remember this.

You are in control of your life’s joy, for you are your creator, and the universe will give you all the tools you need if you make the correct decision.
