Don’t fear; take a leap, or in this case, Jump.

So we recently had a webinar with an Army veteran and project expert.

The Army Veteran took us back to an instance of his National Defence Academy days and connected it to project management so skillfully.

The famous 10-meter jump

The famous 10-meter jump

Each cadet in the academy has to jump from 10 meters, the famous ’10 meter’ jump. Apparently, it’s a procedure they have to pass. HAVE TO. If not, they are given a second chance; otherwise, they are relegated.

Now this seems harsh for someone who has trained and wished hard for the moment they want to join the academy and the defence forces, but if they fail this, it turns into them not having the willpower to make decisions, the trust in their gut.

Physics says that if you jump into water, no matter how high, you won’t injure yourself. However, our fear is what drives us in that moment, and we don’t trust our judgement.

Here is the dilemma of actually handling projects. When we are in a position to make decisions or handle projects, our gut doesn’t feel right, or we simply don’t trust ourselves or others to make the right decision. Hence, projects slow down or, worse, fail.

Don’t let your projects down; take control of your fear, and jump!
