A Rescue Worker’s Unimaginable Horror: Finds Family Dead in Rubble After Russian Strike

The personal cost of war becomes devastatingly real in a single night and it’s absolutely heartbreaking

Thursday, June 5th, 2025 — In a story that hits with the force of unimaginable pain, a Ukrainian rescue worker responding to a Russian drone strike in his own city discovered the unimaginable: his wife, daughter, and infant grandson were among the dead.

This was not easy to write about, I do believe that it needs to be heard as much as it breaks my heart. Even in times of war, this shouldn't be happening…

The scene unfolded overnight in Pryluky, a city about 60 miles east of Kyiv.

Russian drones slammed into a residential area shortly before dawn.

As emergency crews rushed to the chaos, one rescuer arrived at the stricken buildings only to recognize the ruins of his own home.

Inside, he found his wife, his daughter Daryna Shyhyda (a police officer), and her 1-year-old baby boy, all killed.

They were three of five people who died in the strike; six others were injured.

The thought of a first responder finding his own family gone while trying to help others is beyond tragic.

The human toll is staggering and deeply personal: President Zelenskyy shared the rescuer’s horrific discovery online, revealing the child was at least the 632nd child killed since Russia’s full-scale invasion began.

“Russia constantly tries to buy time to continue its killings,” Zelenskyy stated, slamming Putin’s regime for continuing attacks even amidst talk of peace deals.

Ukraine’s National Police captured the collective grief:

“Today our hearts are scorched by pain… This is not just a loss — it is three generations of life uprooted.”

It’s impossible not to feel the weight of that pain.

This wasn’t an isolated strike: Zelenskyy reported over 100 drones and one ballistic missile pounded targets across seven Ukrainian regions overnight.

He pleaded for global action: “This is yet another reason to impose maximum sanctions and apply pressure together… We expect action.”

Timing Adds Insult to Injury: The brutal barrage came just hours after former President Trump admitted speaking with Putin, a call Trump conceded would “not lead to immediate Peace.”

Zelenskyy, who has accepted a US ceasefire proposal, is pushing for harsher sanctions to force Russia to the table.
