Musk is now the world’s first trillionaire. To put this in perspective, if you counted $1 every second without sleeping, 24 hours a day, it would take:

• 11.6 days to count to $1 million

• 31.7 years to count to $1 billion

• 31,709 years to count to $1 trillion

The median household net worth in America is about $193,000. A trillion-dollar fortune is more than 5 million times that amount. And that is what makes wealth at this scale so difficult to justify. Musk did not work 5 million times harder than the median American. He is not 5 million times smarter. He does not contribute 5 million times more to society.

At some point, the issue is no longer individual merit. It is the concentration of wealth, power, and influence on a scale so vast that it ceases to reflect personal achievement and instead reflects a system that funnels extraordinary rewards upward.

When one person can accumulate wealth measured in trillions while millions struggle to afford housing, healthcare, and childcare, it raises a legitimate moral question: how much inequality is too much?

As the old saying goes: the comfort of the rich relies on an abundant supply of the poor.
