Students from the 2026 Regular Student Community Service(PKM) at Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 (UNTAG) Surabaya — specifically Sub-group 7 — conducted a training session titled “Maintenance and Usage of Manual Meat Grinders” as part of the Appropriate Technology (TTG) program. The event took place on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 09:30 to 11:00 WIB in Raci Kulon Village, Sidayu District, Gresik Regency, under the guidance of Field Supervisor Achmad Naufal Irsyadi, S.Hum., M.Li.

This training aims to enhance the community’s knowledge and skills in using manual meat grinders correctly, safely, and hygienically. In addition to explaining operating techniques, the students educate participants on the importance of routine maintenance to ensure the tool remains durable, rust-free, and capable of producing high-quality ground meat. The material covers everything from usage steps and cleaning procedures to proper storage methods after use. Participants engage enthusiastically with every stage of the training. The students explain that before use, the grinder must be securely mounted to a work surface, and the meat cut to fit the hopper and trimmed of excess bone and gristle. Once grinding is complete, all components must be disassembled, washed with warm soapy water, dried, and stored in a clean, dry place to prevent rusting. Through this initiative, the PKM (Student Community Service)hope the community gains a better understanding that “appropriate technology” does not necessarily require modern or expensive equipment. The manual meat grinder serves as an example of simple technology that can improve food processing efficiency, particularly for home-based businesses and MSMEs involved in meat processing.

Field Supervisor Achmad Naufal Irsyadi, S.Hum., M.Li., commended the execution of this community-oriented program. He noted that such training activities represent a tangible implementation of the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education) — specifically community service — through the transfer of practical knowledge and technology. The PKM(Student Creativity Program) Sub-group 7 students hope that the knowledge shared will be utilized sustainably by the residents of Raci Kulon Village. By employing simple yet effective appropriate technology, the community is expected to improve the quality of processed food products, boost business productivity, and foster village economic self-reliance. This training activity reflects the commitment of UNTAG Surabaya PKM students to providing practical solutions for the community. Through collaboration between the university and villagers, it is hoped that simple innovations — such as the manual meat grinder — will deliver tangible benefits, enhance community skills, and support sustainable village development.
