MAN 1 Yogyakarta Wins IFI Francophonie Quiz Competition

Yogyakarta, Indonesia — Speed of thinking combined with accuracy in answering questions became the winning formula for MAN 1 Yogyakarta in the regional Francophonie Quiz Competition. The event, held on Tuesday (April 21, 2026) at the Institut Français Indonesia Yogyakarta, brought together senior high school students from across the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

The MAN 1 Yogyakarta team, consisting of R. Muhammad Dimas Mulqi Alvarez, Risma Putri Dianingtyas, and Rizqi Janneta (Grade XI B), delivered a dominant performance from the very first round. Competing in a fast-paced multiple-choice buzzer format, every second proved decisive. The fastest to press the buzzer earned the chance to answer, with varying points depending on the level of difficulty.

In such conditions, composure and reflexes became the determining factors. The team showed strong game awareness — knowing when to act aggressively and when to hold back to avoid costly mistakes. It was a simple strategy, executed with discipline.

“The key is to be quick, but also confident in the answer,” said their mentor, Ainun Nurfahila Syahban.

Despite having only one week to prepare, the team focused their study on la francophonie and French culture, covering language as well as social and cultural aspects central to the competition. The limited preparation time was compensated by intensive practice and strong teamwork.

Head of MAN 1 Yogyakarta, Edi Triyanto, described the achievement as proof that the school’s students are capable of competing in high-pressure environments that demand both speed and precision.

“This achievement shows that our students are able to think quickly, analytically, and adaptively. These are crucial skills, as competitions today require not only knowledge, but also accuracy in decision-making,” he stated.

He added that this success is expected to inspire other students to further develop their potential, particularly in foreign languages and global awareness. (dee)
