Falling In Love With My Therapist

Every eye blink

Is a different kind of love.

There. I blinked. You blinked.

A new color of love came to exist

that

never was.

This is the way I feel

about you. I know, it’s Transference.

You’re not available. I have a sad desire in which I celebrate your beauty

knowing I won’t ever hold you. I live with that.

Sometimes I burst into tears and these tears feel like regret.

But regret isn’t the way love wants to handle me.

You ask me, often: where do I feel it in my body?

How can I answer that honestly? It would be embarrassing.

There, my eyes blinked again. Yours did too.

I said it before, I say it now: Love always comes in new colors.

My thoughts are not

am driving down a highway

while thoughts pass like billboards…

as I leave downtown

billboards disappear

and the mind is quiet:

or…uh! there’s another one.

Hard to ignore

billboards

when they have sexy images

and the road is nearly deserted:

almost…damn! there’s another one.

Even this idea, this poem

interrupted me, got me up

from my cushion to write.

escape from clouds of caffeine
