Pondering Fortunes

Gomez lights his cigar as Natasia sips her Cafecito. Laughing gulls taunt a toddler across the street, stealing French fries as her little hands flail at the birds.

“My warehouse is approved; I’m licensed. I can distribute Minnie’s wine.”

Natasia brushes her cup across her lips before drinking, avoiding Gomez’s eyes. She watches the toddler’s family walk toward the water. “Audra and Robert?”

“Audra has promised to stop shooting at us. Robert remains in the jungle, unheard, pursued by the Turk.”

“Minnie is good?”

“Yes.”

“Let’s sell some wine.”

Gomez releases a cloud of smoke. “We got this.”
