After launching in 2013, Divvy has been able to make this form of transportation easily accessible to Chicago residents and visitors, and helps decrease the amount of car traffic in the city. Starting off with only 75 stations and 750 bikes, Divvy has expanded to over 800 stations and 16,000 bikes in the past 10 years. Riders can go to any Divvy station in order to rent a bike, and drop it off at another station after their commute. After purchasing a pass, riders can take unlimited 45-minute trips on the bikes, and trips under 30 minutes are free when you dock the bike at a station before the time limit. Over the past 10 years, Divvy has been able to expand its station’s locations to all 50 legislative districts, as of this past May. Meaning, Divvy is focusing on increasing the accessibility and availability of its bikes to everyone. Though there has been notice of discrimination for the location of Divvy bike stations, as a significant amount of them have been concentrated in the north side of Chicago.
