I Failed PT1 😒😒😒

Since I started my cybersecurity journey, this is the first time I’ve failed a certification exam. And honestly, it is painful. But looking back, I realize the experience itself was just as valuable as the result.

The experience???🧐🧐🧐

My first attempt- This was a tough reality check for me👌👌👌👌👌👌

I followed the recommended learning path and focused on web app vulnerabilities — the area I knew I needed to strengthen. I started the exam during the week which I later figured was not the best decision because I work full time as a medical laboratory scientist. I underestimated how much rest and timing mattered. By the end, I didn’t have the focus to give it my best.

Lesson learned: Preparation isn’t only about knowledge, it’s also about setting yourself up with the right conditions.

The Second attempt — small wins, big reminders

This time, I felt more confident. I got a flagon Active Directory, which was reassuring. But then I couldn’t pivot where I needed to. Also, my web app pentest playbook wasn’t sharp enough. The exam stretched my endurance and patience.

Way forward???

1. My web app pentest skills need polishing and I’m excited to dig deeper into that area.
2. Rest and planning are part of strategy.
3. Failure isn’t final. It is feedback and an opportunity to learn better.

I couldn’t comprehend not getting it done at first but I will keep learning and getting better. I will refine my approach, keep practicing, and when I go again, I’ll be better prepared technically, mentally and strategically too.

This wasn’t the outcome I wanted, but it is the growth I needed.

Also, I need to give a thumbs up to the tryhackme team for the learnng content, I enjoyed the updated rooms and it got my mind exposed. Interestingly, my prep even connected back to other areas I’ve been learning, like kubernetes and AI security. It reminded me that thinking is interconnected.
