Cyclops: SOTI Mobicontrol on the go

Hey all!

If you’re like me, you’re always out and about, juggling tasks from different places. Managing mobile devices can be a real pain, especially with how most Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solutions don’t work well on mobile. 📵

So, I made Cyclops, an Android app that lets you manage your SOTI Mobicontrol devices right from your own mobile device.

Why Cyclops?

Well, I wanted something that would let me check device info, policies, and server status… whether at the airport or on the way to the office. I also wanted to be able to do common things like reboot, wipe, and check-in from my mobile device. And of course, I wanted it to be secure and easy to use.

To get started with Cyclops, you’ll need to create an API client on your SOTI Mobicontrol server. It’s not too hard, and I’ll walk you through it.

The process differs based on whether you’re a cloud or on-premise customer:

For SOTI Mobicontrol Cloud customers:

  • Submit a support ticket to SOTI. Request them to create a new API client with the callback URI: mcauth://callback.
  • That’s it!

For on-premise customers:

  • Log in to your server.
  • Open a command prompt in your SOTI Mobicontrol installation folder.
  • Run the following command:
MCAdmin.exe APIClientAdd -n:{API client name} -p:{API secret} -r:mcauth://callback
  • -n is an optional parameter to give your client a name
  • -p is optional and used to specify your own secret. If not provided, a secure string is auto-generated.
  • -r is the callback URI used for OAuth2 authentication. Don’t change it.

Now, you are just one step away from a new frontier of device management experience!

Cyclops is still being worked on, but it already lets you do a bunch of stuff like:

  • Quickly check device info, policies, and server status
  • Do common things like reboot, wipe, check-in, and more
  • Log in securely using Mobicontrol OAuth2, so your personal credentials stay safe
  • Data is kept on your device and not shared with any third-party servers

I plan on adding more features and perhaps supporting more EMMs in the future. I’m always open to suggestions, so let me know how Cyclops can help you manage your devices better.

If you’re a SOTI Mobicontrol user, I hope you’ll try Cyclops and let me know what you think. You can get it from the Google Play Store.

Stay tuned for more updates on Cyclops!
