Chapter 8

“Are you not afraid they will follow you? ” I whispered in his ear.

“My princess, only I know the location of the Valley of the Fairies. You must be allowed by the queen, Paribou, to enter, so don’t be afraid; we will encounter magical beings there. Enjoy the fairies, and the Queen will enjoy you and tell you stories from a very long time ago; the fairies will play with you all night. Just remember not to eat at their table, or you will not be able to leave the valley," the Peacemaker replied.

“One more thing, my princess, the boundaries of the forest are guarded, and a sorceress is outside its boundaries. Be careful not to wander beyond the lighted path the white trees provide; stay within the boundary, and enjoy every moment, as it will feel like a dream when you wake up tomorrow. I will have Peri Banu, the guardian of the forest, guard you at all times. His guards will be posted in the white trees. Just enjoy the evening; you will see the Al-Ghaibs, the beings from the “unseen” world," the Peacemaker added.

Flying on his beautiful Arabian horse felt like flying on a cloud. The night air is refreshing on my face. I did not know where we were, but I did not want this night to end. Magical beings appeared in the night sky that talked to the prince; they flew alongside him, having a conversation, like they were welcoming him. They were very respectful too, as if they were protecting him. He would tell them to hide the trail, and they would tell him not to worry; they have it under control.

As we flew through the night sky, we went through forests, rivers, and then through the clouds; the Hidden Valley of the fairies came to view…it was a hidden mystical subterranean paradise. The most magical unicorns were grazing while fairies sat on old tree branches giggling as the prince flew by; the fairies carried nectar from blooms in the meadow under the clear spring night. There were mystical beings: hundreds of beautiful mermaids waving at the Peacemaker, all giggling as he passed them by. “This one is a natural flirt," I thought. His horse, Asif, which meant strong, fast, and powerful, went past the mermaids, flying slow and low, who may also know that his prince loved the attention. I looked at him as he was unconsciously flirting, then he smiled, and those sad eyes, oh, those eyes…The Peacemaker is perhaps the most handsome man I have ever laid my eyes on. But those sad eyes, I thought, I need to know what sadness he is bearing.

Rocs, also called Rukhs, giant birds of prey who were capable of carrying elephants, were flying past him as he started to fly into the forest below. And that’s where I saw the wondrous and magical white trees; they surrounded the forest. When flying close, I could see that they were in deep conversation with each other, like men and women, young and old, bickering. “We are the guards of old; act like it,” one said. The other answered, "I did not pick this job,” while pointing to the white tree beside him. “it’s all your fault; you taught me that I needed to take my post at sunrise. well, you never told me I needed to ask permission from him before I took my post!” pointing to the white older tree on his left...I was giggling.

Another tree says out loud, “Who forgets three magic words to exit a cave full of jewels? Hahaha, I guess the story of Cassim, Ali Baba’s brother, had already reached them.

“Silence! ” yelled out a white werewolf. The Peacemaker whispered in my ear, "That's Peri Banu, the protector of the Valley of the Fairies.”

Peri Banu added. “If we are attacked by the evil sorceress’ Jinns, you wouldn't be able to take your last breath before you either turn to ashes or turn into a unicorn forever…." Erghhh, the trees started shrugging. “Oh my! I would rather die a hundred deaths before I turn into a unicorn!”

“Silence! ” yelled Peri Banu once again, “Who did the morning patrols? ” he added.

“I did,” answered the white tree by the lake. “Boss, all clear! "

“Never take your guard down," answered Peri Banu. The Jinns are watching every move you make; every weakness is predicated. They can send shapeshifters, and you would never know if your borders are breached.

“Second perimeter guards, are you here? ” Peri Banu commanded, and as he finished his last word, swirls of white smoke appeared, and the giant genies appeared.

“We are here, boss!” One by one each genie started appearing, some on magic carpets, some on a cloud. I felt safe watching how the giant genies stood guard.

“Third perimeter guards? Are you present? ” As he said his last word, beautiful sorceresses and handsome warlocks appeared. “We have been here listening to these trees bantering…looking bored as one sorceress waves her wand, showing her long black nails. “They are making me so sleepy," says another sorceress.

Peri Banu yells, "Your prince is here tonight; show your respect! ”

Every single white tree, genie, warlock, and sorceress kneels. “Hail our prince! ”

As everyone started kneeling, plumes of black smoke started to stir. Jinns started to appear on the other side of the border.

Peri Banu yells, "We are under attack! Gather all the dragons!
